  • Patent number: 12084616
Abstract: Shelf-stabilized H2S scavengers and methods for preparing such shelf-stabilized H2S scavengers. In one aspect, a stabilized hydrogen sulfide scavenger configured for storage at an elevated temperature includes a base scavenger, free formaldehyde, and a stabilizing alcohol. In another aspect, a method of preparing the stabilized hydrogen sulfide scavenger includes the steps of providing a quantity of base scavenger; providing a quantity of free formaldehyde; and adding a quantity of stabilizing alcohol, wherein the quantity of stabilizing alcohol is determined as a function of the provided quantity of free formaldehyde. In yet another aspect, the stabilized scavenger includes about 25 wt. % base scavenger, wherein the base scavenger is an amine-aldehyde condensate; about 15 wt. % free formaldehyde; and between about 10 wt. % and about 25 wt. % stabilizing alcohol.

  • Publication number: 20240218273
Abstract: Certain zinc-based scavengers can scavenge sulfur compounds from fluids containing one or more hydrocarbons, water and the sulfur compound, but may leave deposits of insoluble zinc sulfide (ZnS) which can be problematic. When the zinc-based scavengers are used together with at least one zinc sulfide deposition preventer, deposition of zinc sulfide can be reduced or eliminated. The sulfur compound may be hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Suitable zinc-based sulfur compound scavengers include, but are not necessarily limited to, a zinc carboxylate, a tetramine zinc carbonate, zinc carbonate, zinc ammonium carbonate, zinc chelates, and/or zinc lignosulfonate. Suitable zinc sulfide deposition preventers include, but are not necessarily limited to, sodium salts of a phosphorous-based polymer, polymeric ammonium salts, acrylic sulfonate non-ionic terpolymers, and/or modified acrylic acid polymers.

  • Publication number: 20240166972
Abstract: Thioalcohols are useful for dissolving and removing aldehyde-containing deposits from conduit and/or volumes that are clogged or blocked by the aldehyde-containing deposits, and also to prevent or inhibit aldehydes from polymerizing or otherwise forming aldehyde-containing deposits within conduits and/or volumes.

  • Patent number: 11802246
Abstract: A combination of at least one basic compound, such as potassium hydroxide, together with at least one aldehyde donor can synergistically scavenge mercaptans from organic fluids, such as hydrocarbons, where “synergistically effective” is defined as the amount of mercaptans scavenged is greater as compared with a combination where either the basic compound or the reaction product is absent, used in the same total amount.

  • Publication number: 20070049777
Abstract: Carbonyl species contamination of liquid hydrocarbon media and corrosion of metal surfaces in contact with such media are inhibited. A high boiling point primary or secondary amine is added to the desired liquid hydrocarbon medium, and in one exemplary embodiment, the medium is then brought into contact with a separatory membrane such as a nanofiltration membrane. The permeate from the membrane is a highly purified hydrocarbon stream.

  • Publication number: 20060091044
Abstract: A process for the inhibition of corrosion caused by naphthenic acid during the elevated temperature processing of crude oil or the high temperature distillates derived therefrom by use of a treatment comprising (I) tetra functional substituted aromatic compounds and (II) esters or anhydrides of trimellitic acid.
