Publication number: 20240001457Abstract: A debris ejector for a drilling tool is disclosed. The ejector may be provided as part of a tool assembly where the ejector is coupled with bit. In an example, a tool includes a cup and a drill bit passing through an internal void of the cup. The cutting end of the bit extends out the open end of the cup at a fixed distance, while an attachment end of the bit extends out the back of the cup. The tool further includes an ejector within the cup. The ejector spins with the bit and independently of the cup. In one example, the ejector includes ramped or angled wings that eject material within the cup. In another example, the ejector includes tapered wings with straight and/or angled walls that push material out of the cup through one or more holes of the cup.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2023Publication date: January 4, 2024Applicant: Phillips Screw CompanyInventors: Scott M. Filion, Gary E. Dilling, Christopher M. Gallant, Carl Marabello, JR.

Patent number: 8079995Abstract: A method of manufacturing a composite fastener material, the composite fastener material, and products derived from the composite fastener material. The method includes providing two longitudinally continuous sheets of material, positioning the two sheets to form a longitudinal, continuous interface between the two sheets, joining the two sheets by introducing one or more molten plastic resins in at least one lane, one lane of the resin extending across the interface under conditions that cause the resin to bond to the two sheets, molding an array of stems from at least one lane of the resin, the stems extending from an exposed surface of the composite material, and forming engageable heads on the stems to form fastener elements, wherein the two sheets differ from one another by one of material composition, thickness, texture, stretchability, breathability, and compressability.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2003Date of Patent: December 20, 2011Assignee: Velcro Industries B.V.Inventors: Ernesto S. Patent number: 7373700Abstract: A skin-friendly hook component of a hook and loop fastener that reduces or eliminates the occurrence of red-marking and/or irritation if brought into contact with a wearer's skin. In one embodiment, the hook component can have a relatively large top surface area among the hooks with respect to a surface area of the hook backing. In another embodiment, the hook backing is highly flexible, attributable to a flexible resin and/or modified topography. In yet another embodiment, a highly flexible polymer, or polymers, can be used to make individual hooks such that the hooks bend in response to a minimum amount of pressure. Various illustrated hook tapes have features along their edges to enhance skin-friendliness. A skin-friendly hook component results any combination of the disclosed embodiments. The hook component is particularly beneficial when used in absorbent articles.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2007Date of Patent: May 20, 2008Assignee: Velcro Industries B.V.Inventors: Timothy R. Patent number: 6671935Abstract: An easy-to-grip diaper fastener tab has an array of hook-shaped fastener elements arranged in parallel rows, each fastener element including a stem and a crook extending from the stem in a predetermined direction to a distal tip. The array includes a plurality of rows of fastener elements arranged such that, in each row, all of the crooks face in the same direction and parallel to the direction of the row, with the crooks of adjacent rows facing in opposite directions. The longitudinal spacing between opposing tips of adjacent hooks of adjacent rows is greater in a first portion of the array than the longitudinal spacing between opposing tips of adjacent hooks of adjacent rows in a second portion of the array, such that the crooks of the hooks of the first portion are more exposed for engaging loops than the crooks of the hooks of the second portion. Methods and molds for forming such arrays are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2002Date of Patent: January 6, 2004Assignee: Velcro Industries B.V.Inventors: Scott M. Filion, Richard J. Patent number: 6258311Abstract: A method for producing a multiplicity of fastener element molding cavities extending from a mold surface, for molding a plastic product having fastener elements integrally molded with and extending from a product base, and a mold so produced. The mold cavities are formed by depositing multiple layers of plating material on a workpiece in a predetermined pattern selected to produce a desired mold cavity shape, or by depositing a thick stratum of plating material over an array of fastener elements and then removing the fastener elements to leave shaped cavities within the plating material. The mold may be in the form of a roll or belt for continuous processing, or in any form for discrete injection molding. Molds having fastener element cavities defined by rigid cast materials are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1999Date of Patent: July 10, 2001Assignee: Velcro Industries B.V.Inventors: Stephen C. Patent number: 6163939Abstract: Methods of forming mold cavities (1) suitable for hook and loop fastening (100), along with effective hook construction and hook and loop fastener products that have an ultrathin cross section (118). Photochemical techniques are employed to form plates (250) that define hook-form mold cavities (1), and, alternatively, chemical etching is employed following preforming of the cavities and machining. Included are hooks having three-dimensional tapers with enhanced loop engaging characteristics. By utilization of special surface finishes and tolerances, hook fasteners, having ultrathin cross sections (118) are realized, that pave the way for practical use of touch fasteners in a wide range of new areas.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1999Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Velcro Industries, B.V.Inventors: Thomas G. Patent number: 5952630Abstract: A vehicle interior trim panel electrical switch assembly (10) includes a switch panel portion (16) with a continuous outer surface (18). Force sensitive resistor switches (20a-20g) are supported on the switch panel portion (16) and are secured to the inner surface of a skin cover having a continuous outer surface (18) and forming the outer layer of a soft feel composite. The force sensitive resistor switches are embedded in the soft feel composite either as being cast in a layer of flexible foam or being applied within preformed openings in a layer of flexible foam in certain embodiments in which case they are associated with a circuit module (34) that negates preloading effects due to thermal expansion caused by changes in ambient conditions. In a preferred embodiment the correction occurs due to a circuit configuration that corrects for such preloading effects on a deflection rate basis. The circuit module (34) for each switch (20a-20g) may also include a relay in high power applications.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1998Date of Patent: September 14, 1999Assignee: Textron Automotive Company Inc.Inventors: Scott M.
