  • Patent number: 12295827
Abstract: An embolic protection device comprises a tubular filter body attached to a sheath. The tubular filter body has an open upstream end and a generally closed downstream end for capturing emboli. A self-opening passage through the emboli capture end of the tubular filter body allows multiple catheters to be advanced from the sheath or otherwise into the filter body simultaneously or sequentially. The sheath is attached to a peripheral support structure near the emboli capture end of the filter body to facilitate deployment and retrieval of the filter body through a restraining delivery catheter.

  • Publication number: 20230346536
Abstract: An embolic filter positioning system includes a vascular delivery sheath, a filter catheter, a self-expanding embolic filter attached to a distal end of the filter catheter, and an elongate dilator having a tapered dilator tip. The elongate dilator is slidably received in a central lumen of the filter catheter, and the filter catheter is slidably received in the open lumen of the vascular delivery sheath. The tapered dilator tip is positioned distally of the distal end of the vascular delivery sheath, and the self-expanding embolic filter is radially constrained in a proximal portion of the open lumen of the vascular delivery sheath. The tapered dilator tip has an expanded configuration where it covers the open distal end of the vascular delivery sheath and facilitates entry though an arteriotomy and a contracted configuration where it can be retracted through the central lumen of the filter catheter.

  • Patent number: 10918516
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an intrauterine device (IUD) for contraception that has a desired copper elution rate is described. The method may involve selecting an elongate shape memory member comprising a first metal having a first galvanic potential, selecting at least one attachment member comprising a second metal having a second galvanic potential that is different from the first galvanic potential, attaching the attachment member(s) to the shape memory member, and shaping the shape memory member to form a frame of the intrauterine contraceptive device. The first metal and the second metal are specifically selected as materials for the shape memory member and the attachment member(s), in order to achieve the desired copper elution rate.

  • Patent number: 8758395
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a device and method for preventing the undesired passage of emboli from a venous blood pool to an arterial blood pool. The invention relates especially to a device and method for treating certain cardiac defects, especially patent foramen ovales and other septal defects, through the use of an embolic filtering device capable of instantaneously deterring the passage of emboli from the moment of implantation. The device consists of a frame, and a braided mesh of sufficient dimensions to prevent passage of emboli through the mesh. The device is preferably composed of shape memory allow, such as nitinol, which conforms to the shape and dimension of the defect to be treated.

  • Patent number: 8491571
Abstract: An orifice device for delivering one or more drugs includes an inner member having a proximal end and a distal end; and a winding helically wound around the inner member. The winding includes a plurality of distinct wires helically wound in parallel around the inner member. The winding and the inner member define at least three separate channels for carrying one or more drugs therethrough. An inlet is at the proximal end of the winding and an outlet is at the distal end of the winding for the plurality of distinct wires. In some embodiments, at least two of the plurality of distinct wires have a different dimension. An outer member is used over the winding. Also, at least two of the at least three separate channels have a different fluid flow rate. And, in some embodiments, at least two of the at least three separate channels carry a different drug.
