  • Patent number: 7582472
Abstract: There is provided a device for partitioning a liquefied sample into discrete volumes. The device includes a bottom member; a top member disposed adjacent the bottom member; and at least one channel member disposed between the top and bottom members. The at least one channel member is at least partially defined by the top and bottom members and has first and second end portions. The first end portion of the at least one channel has an opening to receive liquid and the second end portion of the at least one channel has a reaction compartment and a vent opening. Accordingly, when the liquefied sample is introduced to the first end portion, capillary action assists in causing the liquefied sample to travel from the first end portion to the second end portion and at least a portion of the liquefied sample is caused to remain in the reaction compartment.

  • Publication number: 20080193909
Abstract: A magnetic drawing tablet apparatus comprising a stationary base housing and a screen housing movable with respect thereto. The screen housing will contain a magnetic drawing screen which is sealed and includes writing medium suspended therein which can create an image on the screen responsive to contacting thereof with a magnetic stylus. An magnetic erasing member is secured with respect to the base and extends into the screen housing to a position adjacent the magnetic screen. When the screen housing is moved between a docked position engaging the base and an extended position away from the base, erasing of images on the magnetic screen is achieved by passing the magnetic screen adjacently over the magnetic eraser. Sliding the screen housing relative to the base will preferably expose a decorative panel therebeneath. A receptacle in the base may be provided for storage of drawings templates and a magnetic style for writing may be mounted in a hole defined in the base.

  • Publication number: 20060153483
Abstract: A bearing assembly comprising a centrifugal debris trap for removing contamination debris from lubrication fluid prior to lubrication of the bearing assembly components is provided. The centrifugal debris trap comprises an annular groove on an inner race such that with sufficient centrifugal force, contamination debris in the lubrication oil is forced into the groove and held there. Removal of contamination debris from the lubrication oil prevents damage to bearing balls and races of the bearing assembly, thus reducing bearing fatigue. A method for lubricating bearing assembly components using the bearing assembly of the present invention is also provided.

  • Patent number: 7015779
Abstract: A wide bore, high field superconducting magnet. The superconducting magnet has a plurality of superconducting coils impregnated with epoxy and nested within each other. An innermost one of the nested coils has a bore therethrough that defines a bore width of the magnet. The bore width is greater than approximately 100 millimeters. The nested coils are electrically connected in series and cooled to an operating temperature less than approximately 4 degrees K. The magnet also has external reinforcements on the coils that are applied prior to impregnating the coils with epoxy. An active protection circuit protects the coils in response to a quench in the magnet. The protection circuit includes heater elements positioned in thermal contact with the coils prior to impregnating the coils with epoxy. The magnet further has lead supports for supporting the lead wires with epoxy that extend from the coils.
