  • Patent number: 10337438
Abstract: A method for diagnosing a no-start fault of a vehicle push-button start system including a push-button switch, where the system starts a vehicle engine if the switch is pressed and a vehicle brake is applied. The method includes detecting that a no engine crank condition has occurred if the switch is pressed and the brake is applied, and if so, performs a no crank diagnosis. The method also includes determining that a starter control relay has not been enabled after the system is in a crank power mode, and if so, performs a starter not-enabled diagnosis. The method also includes determining that the starter control relay has been disabled before the engine is running, and if so, performs a start disable diagnosis. The method also includes determining that the engine has stalled within some minimum time after it has successfully been started, and if so, performs an engine stall diagnosis.

  • Patent number: 8414455
Abstract: A vehicle system includes a transmission shifting means, an authorization means, an engine, and a control system. The transmission shifting means is capable of being shifted between a first position and a second position, where the first position represents a start mode. The authorization means adapted to detect an identification signal and to supply an authorization signal indicating the identification signal has been verified. The engine is adapted to turn on and to turn off. The control system is in operable communication with the transmission shifting means, the authorization means, and the engine. When the transmission shifting means is shifted to the first position, the transmission shifting means sends a first signal to the control system, the control system detects whether the authorization signal has been received from the authorization means, and if received, the control system provides a first command to the engine to turn on.

  • Patent number: 8365037
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for improving integrity in data representing a plurality of condition states of a variable, including the steps of determining which condition states are operationally incompatible with one another, and generating an array of transformed integer values including a separate integer value for each condition state. The transformed integer value for each condition state in binary form is at least two bit errors removed from any transformed integer value for an identified incompatible condition state in binary form.

  • Publication number: 20040201284
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for changing vehicle personalization features. The apparatus comprises a multifunction switch coupled to a multifunction display. The display includes a main menu display configured to display, in response to signals from the switch, in sequence, first numeric codes that are representative of a sequence of settable features and a second numeric code identifying the current selected mode of a given feature. The display also includes a sub-menu display that is configured to display, in response to additional signals from the switch, a first numeric code defining the feature selected to be changed and to display, in sequence, second numeric codes representative of selectable modes of the settable feature. The multifunctional switch is also coupled to an electronic module that is configured to set a selected mode of a settable feature in response to yet a further signal from the switch.

  • Patent number: 6791202
Abstract: A remote starting system shutoff system and method for a vehicle includes a vehicle power plant and a remote starting system that is connected to the vehicle power plant. A transmitter actuates the remote starting system to start the vehicle power plant. A vehicle hazard switch in the passenger compartment of the vehicle has first and second positions. When the hazard switch is in the first position, the vehicle power plant can be started using the transmitter. After the vehicle power plant is started, the remote starting system turns the vehicle power plant off if the hazard switch transitions from the first position to the second position. Remote starting is disabled anytime that the switch is in the second position. The transmitter is preferably a radio frequency transmitter. The vehicle power plant is selected from the group of internal combustion engines, diesel engines, hybrids and fuel cells.
