  • Publication number: 20100289457
Abstract: A method of providing power to an electronic device in an energy-efficient manner includes transitioning between power states corresponding to charging and discharging a battery. The state of charge of the battery is detected. Upon detecting a high threshold state of charge, an external power source such as an AC-to-DC adapter is disabled, and the battery to provides primary power to the electronic device. Upon a low threshold state of charge, the AC-to-DC adapter is controlled to provide a high current output to charge the battery and provide primary power to the electronic device. The power states, when cycled over time based on the state of the battery, provide for an energy-efficient method of powering the electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20100218766
Abstract: A multimode ventilator is disclosed that provides physicians and clinicians the ability to select multiple modes of operation for the ventilator. Embodiments of the present disclosure provide users with the ability to select from multiple modes of ventilator operations. The users may also set transition conditions and monitoring thresholds that determine when the multimode ventilator transitions between the selected modes of operations. Multiple user interfaces are also disclosed that allow the user to interact with the multimode ventilator in order to select particular modes of operation, transition conditions, and monitoring thresholds.

  • Publication number: 20100108291
Abstract: Battery cells are embedded in a device to control thermal management of the device. One embodiment includes an embedded battery arrangement that improves thermal management of a portable computer, such as heat transfer and dissipation from heat generating components of the portable computer (including, for example, central processing unit chips or graphics processing unit chips). In one specific embodiment, a printed circuit board is mounted to a battery pack to cause improved radiation of heat from heat generating components of the portable computer to outside of the portable computer housing. In another embodiment, battery cells are distributed within the housing of a portable computer that improves thermal management.

  • Publication number: 20090205663
Abstract: Systems and methods for configuring the operation of an alternating pressure ventilation mode are provided. According to one embodiment a configuration method includes monitoring gas flow between a patient and a ventilation system. Based on the monitoring, a peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) is determined Information indicative of values of parameters of the ventilation mode are received, including a higher pressure setting, a lower pressure setting and a duration of the higher pressure setting. User input is also received indicative of a target percentage of PEFR at which the ventilation system should cycle from the lower pressure setting to the higher pressure setting. Based on the target percentage, a duration of the lower pressure setting is programmatically determined. Finally, the ventilation system is configured to automatically cycle between the higher and lower pressure setting at a predetermined flow based on the parameters and the duration of the lower pressure setting.

  • Publication number: 20080078390
Abstract: The disclosure provides a breathing assistance system that may include: a storage device operable to store multiple trending parameter groups; a user interface operable to exhibit the identifiers for at least a portion of the trending parameter groups and to receive a user selection of a particular one of the exhibited identifiers; and a display operable to display each of the trending parameters in the selected trending parameter group.
