  • Patent number: 9313768
Abstract: A method and apparatus for handling a call using a wireless integrated access device that is compatible with Voice over ATM and Voice over DSL on a network side while being compatible with VoIP on a customer premise side are disclosed. For example, the present method employs a wireless integrated access device for receiving an incoming call from a broadband access network that uses dedicated connection switching. In turn, the method establishes a wireless connection for the incoming call with at least one VoIP enabled endpoint device located at a customer premise.

  • Patent number: 8031841
Abstract: A method and apparatus for mechanizing the currently manual ADSL loop testing process is disclosed. In one embodiment, an automated loop testing device is disclosed, where the loop testing device has a pair of terminals, e.g., RJ-11 jacks on both sides of the device. The jack on one side connects to inside wiring which, in turn, connects to an ADSL modem. The other jack connects to an outside line which, in turn, connects to a central office of a network provider. In operation, the present device detects a line voltage reversal and then disconnects the input line to the ADSL Modem. When the voltage returns to normal, then the device behaves normally by being closed, essentially acting as a pass through device and again connects the input lines to the output lines.

  • Patent number: 7864753
Abstract: Certain exemplary embodiments provide a method, comprising: receiving, at a subscriber interface line card, an analog signal from a POTS subscriber loop circuit; quantizing the analog signal into a plurality of digital samples; encoding, via high-quality audio codec instructions running on a digital signal processor installed on the subscriber interface line card, the plurality of digital samples; and converting, via conversion instructions running on the digital signal processor, the encoded plurality of digital samples into a plurality of VoATM packets.

  • Patent number: 7860224
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a voicemail notification to a subscriber or customer in a communication network are disclosed. For example, the present method uses a wireless integrated access device (WIAD) to interact with a voicemail server via the Internet. The WIAD determines whether a newly saved voicemail exists for a customer and then interacts with at least one endpoint device that is located at a customer premise to provide a voicemail notification to the customer if a newly saved voicemail exists for the customer.

  • Publication number: 20060159125
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and a machine-readable medium for providing high-quality voice through central office equipment are provided. A signal indicative of a desired amount of bandwidth for a call may be received at the central office equipment. A determination may be made as to whether a desired amount of bandwidth resources associated with the central office equipment is available for the call. The signal indicative of the desired amount of bandwidth resources may be forwarded to a next item in a communications path between a calling audio device and a called audio device when the determination determines that the desired amount of bandwidth resources associated with the central office equipment is available for the call.
