  • Publication number: 20080132188
Abstract: A pico-cell wireless radio system, that has a pico-base transceiver station (pico-BTS), for wireless data communication within a climate controlled micro-environment is disclosed. The system fits in public phone enclosures, such as pay phone enclosures, and operates in combination with the phone system. The system uses a combination of available telephone and multiple low-power wireless data communication technologies, such as cellular, WiFi, and WiMax, to provide public access to communication networks, including wide area networks and local area networks. Placing the pico-cell based wireless system within a climate controlled chamber enables its use in harsh environments, as are typically to be expected where the public telephones are installed.
