  • Patent number: 11400913
Abstract: A method and system for operating a vehicle that includes a driveline disconnect clutch and a step-ratio transmission is described. In one example, the method includes shifting the step-ratio transmission to neutral and accelerating an engine to an expected input shaft speed of the step-ratio transmission via applying full output capacity of an electric machine to the engine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 10, 2019
Date of Patent: August 2, 2022
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Corey James Blue, Scott James Thompson, Kendrick Morrison, Scott Patrick Ries, Steve Michael Cicala, Kurt Howard Nickerson

  • Patent number: 10486655
Abstract: While a transmission range selector is in a Park position, a controller engages multiple transmission shift elements to place the transmission in a tie-up state. In the tie-up state, both the transmission output shaft and the turbine shaft are held against rotation by the shift elements. To transition from Park to Drive, the controller releases one of the shift elements to place the transmission in a 1st gear state. To transition from Park to Reverse, the controller releases a different one of the shift elements to place the transmission in a reverse state. The controller may wait until the driver releases the brake pedal to release the shift element.

  • Patent number: 9657676
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for calibrating powertrain output in a vehicle. In one embodiment, a method for a vehicle comprises displaying a multi-parameter powertrain calibration map on a display device, and, responsive to user input, selectively adjusting the displayed calibration map along at least one parameter and not adjusting the calibration map past one or more predetermined thresholds. In this way, a vehicle powertrain system may be optimized according to a user's needs and/or preferences.

  • Publication number: 20150307101
Abstract: When a vehicle driver commands a change in direction of motion while the vehicle is moving above a threshold speed, a controller first applies a braking force to slow the vehicle below the threshold speed and then establishes a power flow path associated with the opposite direction of motion. The braking force may be applied by wheel brakes or, in some situations, by a transmission clutch. This method prevents an engine stall, overheating of oncoming clutch, and excessive delay.
