  • Publication number: 20160089162
Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are provided for ligament repair procedures, and can be used to establish a location and trajectory for forming a bone tunnel in bone. One exemplary embodiment of a surgical guide for using in a ligament repair procedure includes a guide arm and a carriage that can be selectively locked along the guide arm to define an angle of the bone tunnel. The guide arm also defines a location of a distal end of the bone tunnel. In some embodiments the carriage is configured to have a bullet side-loaded into it, and the bullet can be used to define a location of a proximal end of the bone tunnel. The present disclosure also provides for a gage that limits the distance a drill pin that drills the bone tunnel can travel. A variety of other, devices, systems, and methods are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20150351777
Abstract: Cutting instruments and related methods are disclosed herein in which the diameter of the retrograde cutting blade can be adjusted to any of a plurality of diameter settings, allowing the same instrument to be used to form holes of different diameters. The limit diameter can be preset such that, during the cutting operation, the user need not be concerned with selecting the appropriate diameter, but rather can simply deploy the cutting blade until the preset limit is reached. Cutting instruments are also disclosed in which the retrograde cutting blade is distinct from the forward drilling tip and protected within a cavity formed in the body of the instrument when not in use, as are instruments in which the user is given visual and/or tactile feedback to confirm desired positioning of the cutting blade.

  • Publication number: 20150088148
Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for driving an implant into bone to a predetermined depth are described herein. In one embodiment, a medical driver tool is provided that includes a housing having a proximal end configured to receive an impacting force, an elongate shaft extending distally from the housing and having a distal tip configured to drive an implant into bone, and a release mechanism coupled between the housing and the elongate shaft. The release mechanism can have an engaged position in which the elongate shaft is axially immovable relative to the housing and a disengaged position in which the elongate shaft is axially movable relative to the housing. The release mechanism can be configured to move from the engaged position to the disengaged position in response to a force applied to move at least a portion of the release mechanism proximally relative to the housing.

  • Patent number: 6096043
Abstract: A tool lays out resection or alignment features to prepare a bone end for prosthetic joint replacement. The tool attaches to the end of the femur, and positions an initial cut, for example a pair of aligned drill holes for the positioning pins of a prosthesis or the cutting blocks used in preparing the distal femur. The tool includes adjustable assemblies coupled to a main body for setting its position, and these are arranged with graduations for sizing the femur. The adjustable assemblies include an epicondylar engaging assembly such as a pair of clamp arms which slide in the body to align the body along the epicondylar axis. It further includes one or more other assemblies which determine a line, offset depth or other coordinate or component of orientation to set the drill guide for optimally locating the initial cut in the femur.
