  • Patent number: 6985819
Abstract: A digital multimeter adapter for a portable electronic device includes a hardware interface connector and a computer program memory. The memory stores computer program instructions that direct the electronic device to collect data representative of a signal from an external source, analyzing the data to identify a characteristic such as voltage, current, or resistance, and displaying the data in digital format. The user may select one or more of the scales of the display. The adapter also may include a model value database, a collected value database, an application-specific database, and/or a language database.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 20, 2001
Date of Patent: January 10, 2006
    Assignee: SPX Corporation
Inventors: Edward E. Lipscomb, Kurt Raichle, Troy Liebl, Scott R. Sebastian, Martin P. Franz
  • Patent number: 6969983
Abstract: An oscilloscope adapter for a portable electronic device includes a hardware interface connector and a computer program memory. The memory stores computer program instructions that direct the electronic device to collect data representative of a signal from an external source and display the data as a waveform comprising individual data values as a function of time. The user may select one or more of the scales of the graph. The adapter also may include one or more of a model waveform database, a collected waveform database, an application-specific database, and a language database.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 20, 2001
Date of Patent: November 29, 2005
    Assignee: SPX Corporation
Inventors: Edward E. Lipscomb, Kurt Raichle, Troy Liebl, Scott R. Sebastian, Martin P. Franz
  • Patent number: 6917875
Abstract: A signal processing apparatus for detecting and displaying the properties of diesel fuel powered compression-ignition engines senses strain pulses in the fuel injection rail structure to perform a variety of testing functions. Among other capabilities, the apparatus permits the user to establish stroboscope timing, to measure engine RPM, to view the relationship between crankshaft position and injection time, and to examine the time-dependent properties of strain pulses on individual fuel injectors in order to evaluate the condition of the diesel engine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 27, 2003
Date of Patent: July 12, 2005
Inventors: Dale R. Boysen, Scott R. Sebastian, William W. Wittliff, III, Martin P. Franz

  • Patent number: 6617857
Abstract: An engine analyzer senses and displays secondary ignition signals from a DIS engine using a two sets of test leads. The engine analyzer receives the secondary signals from both sets of leads and produces positive and negative peak values for each set of leads during each cylinder firing. Based upon the positive and negative peak values for both sets of leads, during each of the cylinder firings, the engine analyzer selects which lead set and which polarity will be used to supply the secondary voltage signal for each cylinder to be digitized and displayed.
