Abstract: An improved disconnect device suitable for use with an IV tube or other medical tubing device which can be either manually disconnected or automatically disconnected by the application of an axial force sufficiently low to prevent patient injury; which can be sterilely reattached after disconnection; which allows fluid flow in either direction; which shuts off fluid flow from both directions when disconnected; and which can be simply and inexpensively manufactured and assembled with techniques common to the injection molding, and medical products manufacturing industry.
