  • Publication number: 20060136912
Abstract: A method, apparatus and system for transparently unifying virtual machines (“VMs”) is disclosed. An embodiment of the present invention enables a user to interact with various applications on a VM host while unaware of the VM structure on the VM host. The user may be presented with a unified desktop interface representing a composite and/or unified view of the VM host. Via this unified desktop interface, the user may perform all necessary commands and/or receive output. Invisible to the user, the unified desktop interface represents a unification console. The unification console may be an independent component (e.g., an enhanced VM) and/or a subset of a virtual machine manager (“VMM”) component on the VM host.

  • Publication number: 20060136911
Abstract: A method, apparatus and system for improving usability of virtual machines is described. A console module on a VM host may continuously monitor incoming data (e.g., files and/or attachments) and make automatic determinations regarding how and/or whether to intercept, route, redirect and/or deliver the data (e.g., where to store files, when and/or whether to deliver the files, execute the files, etc.). Additionally, in one embodiment, a unification console may be provided to enhance the usability of the VM host. The unification console enables the user to view the VM host via a unified desktop interface while handling the underlying switching and/or interactions between VMs.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for providing handwritten messages with electronic communication devices. For example the electronic communication device may be a mobile communication device and may include a touch screen, screen buffer memory, processor, and transceiver. In preferred embodiments, the mobile communication device may be a personal digital assistant (PDA), a two-way pager, or a mobile telephone. The mobile communication device user may create a handwritten message on the touch screen using, for example, a stylus. In one exemplary embodiment, the handwritten message displayed on the touch screen may be stored to the buffer memory as an image, directed by the processor to the transceiver, and transmitted via a wireless connection to, for example, a wireless base station and the Internet. The Internet may route the handwritten message image to a desired Internet address. The handwritten message may be displayed in real time on the recipient's display, e.g.

  • Publication number: 20050198303
Abstract: A server receives a request for a service. The server determines if a virtual machine already exists that offers the service. If so, the server returns an identifier of the virtual machine to the requesting client so that the client may access the service from the virtual machine. Otherwise, the server attempts to create an image of a virtual machine offering the service. If successful in creating the image, the image is installed as a new virtual machine in a host machine, and the server returns an identifier of the newly created virtual machine to the client.

  • Publication number: 20050132367
Abstract: A method, apparatus and system enable a management virtual machine to act as a proxy for other virtual machines on a virtual machines host. In one embodiment, the management virtual machine may maintain a database of network management information pertaining to each virtual machine on the host. An enhanced virtual machine manager on the host may provide an interface to the management virtual machine to enable the management virtual machine to trap management messages destined for virtual machines on the host. The management virtual machine may respond to the messages based on information in the database and/or issue queries to the virtual machines to obtain the requisite information. In one embodiment, the management virtual machine may aggregate the information from various virtual machines prior to responding to the network management message.

  • Patent number: 6768722
Abstract: The present invention enables a party which is placed on hold in a first communication session to enter a second communication session and continue to monitor the status of the first communication. For example, in a broadband communication system telephone call or multimedia call, two parties may be in an active communication session with one another and a first of the two parties to the call may receive another incoming call. The first party then places the second party on hold. At this time the second party may wish to place the communication session with the first party on hold to initiate another communication session with a third party. However, the second party would also like to know when the first party takes the communication session off hold so that they can resume their communication. As a result, the second party places the communication on “monitor” hold.

  • Patent number: 6690806
Abstract: A microphone construction for use in a hearing aid wherein a faceplate separates a switching mechanism from a microphone having first and second acoustic ports. The first and second acoustic ports are placed into acoustic relationships with first and second acoustic opening within the faceplate by first and second acoustic passages, respectively. The switching mechanism is positionable between a first position wherein the first and second acoustic ports are in an acoustically receptive state and a second position wherein either the first or second acoustic port is in an acoustically receptive state and the other acoustic port is in an acoustically unreceptive state.
