  • Publication number: 20060200997
Abstract: A folding knife includes a handle defining a knife receiving chamber and including first and second inner plates disposed in spaced relation between a pair of outer plates. The folding knife also supports a blade having a tip end and a tang end that is pivotally attached to the handle and is pivotable between a retracted position where the blade is disposed in the knife receiving chamber and an extended position where the blade resides outside of the handle. The first inner plate has a slot formed therein so as to define a lock member that has a locking edge that is biased inwardly towards the blade and having an extension projecting outwardly from the locking edge.

  • Publication number: 20060178716
Abstract: A handheld appliance suitable for skin treatment and/or personal care operations comprises an applicator structure having a thermally conductive element supported so as to be exposable to controlled release of pressurized fluid within a gas-expansion chamber. The just-expanded gas causes an endothermic reaction in which heat is removed from the applicator. The applicator is usable to then draw heat energy from skin, etc. When applied to skin, a numbing effect is experienced which can ease pain associated with depilation, discomfort associated with exfoliation, be useful in treating wounds, etc.

  • Patent number: 7080457
Abstract: A folding knife includes a blade cavity defined by two liner plates into which a pivotal blade may reside. The blade, which is pivotally attached to liner plates at a pivot point, includes a tang having a recess that is parallel to the sides of the blade. A rod is pivotally secured to the blade within the recess. A spring is secured to either or both liner plates at one end and to the rod at the other end so that a pulling action is applied to the blade. The rod is attached to the blade with respect to the pivot point so that the action of the spring forces the blade into the blade cavity until the blade is rotated from the cavity past a critical point of angular displacement, after which the spring forces the blade to its fully open position. The invention further includes a variety of locking arrangements which ensure that once the blade reaches its fully open position, the blade will remain there until the user desires to close it.

  • Publication number: 20060150791
Abstract: An ergonomically designed food slicing machine including a rotatable blade (800, 2800) for slicing bulk food product, a motor (1400, 3400) operably connected to the rotating blade (800, 2800), and a base (100) portion located below the rotatable blade (800, 2800) which defines a food slice receiving area. The machine may be provided with a sliced food receptable operably connected to a scale (3900), a visible indicia (3502) correlating to the distance between the gauge plate (2500) and rotatable blade (2800), a blade sharpening assembly (900, 2900), a sled (200) for securing the food product and an operator adjusted optimum stroke setting system for automatic operation of the slicing machine.

  • Patent number: 6565479
Abstract: A method for and apparatus for preventing oscillations of a vehicle. The engine speed is monitored and filtered, the filtered engine speed being compared to a natural frequency of the vehicle. The natural frequency corresponds to a gear ratio of the vehicle. A torque command is provided to an electric machine coupled to a driveline of the vehicle, the electric machine provides a counteracting torque to the driveline in order to eliminate oscillations in the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5739670
Abstract: A method for diagnosing the general condition of a battery module in a string of such modules comprising a battery pack monitors voltage, current and temperatures of the modules and battery pack. Accumulators account for various charge quantities including charge out and net charge used for the battery pack as well as discharge period durations. State of charge is provided by appropriate means and used to update module capacities. The various charge and time accumulators are used to derive depth of discharge and discharge rate information providing inputs to predetermined functions for determining a simple scalar outputs directly indicative of the general condition of the modules.
