  • Publication number: 20130165257
Abstract: Iron-type golf club heads are disclosed having a heel portion, a sole portion, a toe portion, a top-line portion, a front portion, a rear portion, and a striking face. The iron-type golf club heads include a localized stiffened region that is located on the striking face of the club head such that the localized stiffened region alters the launch conditions of golf balls struck by the club head in a way that wholly or partially compensates for, overcomes, or prevents the occurrence of a rightward deviation. In particular, the localized stiffened region is located on the striking face such that a golf ball struck under typical conditions will not impart a right-tending sidespin to the golf ball.

  • Patent number: 8465077
Abstract: A vehicle having an adjustable seating assembly and related method. One member of the seating assembly may be adjusted to provide a backrest to a straddle type seat of the vehicle. As such, when a carrier bed having an accessory platform is located rearward of the straddle type seat, the one member may optionally be used to provide a wall portion of the carrier bed. The one member may also be adjusted to provide an extension to the straddle type seat. When an accessory platform is located rearward of the straddle type seat, an additional member of the seating assembly may be adjusted to provide a backrest to one or more of the straddle type seat or an extended straddle type seat. The additional member may also be adjusted to form a segment of the accessory platform.

  • Publication number: 20130118616
Abstract: An apparatus for removing material collected in a material collection container having a floor and at least one substantially vertically extending wall. The apparatus includes a material removal assembly for removing material collected in the material collection container. The material removal assembly includes a first conduit and a second conduit. The first conduit is in telescoping relationship with the second conduit to permit the first conduit to move relative to the second conduit. The first conduit and the second conduit each have a longitudinal axis. The material removal assembly further includes at least one material removal header configured to receive material accumulating on the floor of the material collection container. The material removal assembly is preferably configured to enhance numerous aspects of the sludge removal process.

  • Patent number: 8411578
Abstract: Systems and methods for proactive management of a communication network through monitoring a user network interface are disclosed. An example method disclosed herein to proactively monitor user network interfaces comprises obtaining first information related to operation of a physical port, determining that the physical port implements both a first user network interface and a second user network interface, combining the first information with second information related to operation of a first logical port implementing the first user network interface, but not implementing the second user network interface, to assess performance of the first user network interface, and combining the first information with third information related to operation of a second logical port implementing the second user network interface, but not implementing the first user network interface, to assess performance of the second user network interface.

  • Publication number: 20130076839
Abstract: A method and structure for an ink jet print head which includes the use of two or more flexible circuits and a piezoelectric element array. A first pad array is included on a first flex circuit to power a first portion of the piezoelectric element array of the print head, and a second pad array is included on a second flex circuit to power a second portion of the piezoelectric element array of the print head. Using two flex circuits requires only half as many traces to be formed on each flex circuit, which can relax spacing requirements and design tolerances.

  • Publication number: 20130051974
Abstract: Gas turbine engines and methods for cooling components thereof with mid-impeller bleed (MIB) cooling air having a pressure are provided. The gas turbine engine has a compressor comprising an impeller body and an impeller shroud at least partially surrounding the impeller body. The impeller shroud has a plurality of MIB openings disposed therein. At least one edge treatment is provided thereto. The edge treatment substantially preserves pressure of the cooling air during entrance into and discharge out of the MIB opening. The plurality of MIB openings may be extended MIB openings in a thickened impeller shroud. The centerline of the MIB openings may be oriented to be substantially aligned with an averaged local absolute flow velocity vector of the cooling air at the inlet section of the MIB opening in order to extract cooling air in a direction that has a vector component in a tangential, an axial, and a radial flow direction.

  • Patent number: 8333889
Abstract: A filter system having a filter bed for filtering water or wastewater, where the filter bed is periodically washed between service runs by directing washing liquid and washing gas upwardly through the filter bed. The filter system includes a filter bed and at least one flume. The flume is in fluid communication with the filter bed. Preferably, the flume is configured such that no washing liquid and washing gas interface is present in the flume. The flume may be configured such that during washing of the filter bed between service runs the flume receives a washing gas and directs the washing gas upwardly through the filter bed to assist in cleaning the filter bed between service runs. The flume may further be configured such that during washing the only liquid directed from the flume to the filter bed is residual liquid that may be present in the flume from a prior service run.

  • Publication number: 20120316596
Abstract: A surgical access device comprises an elongate shaft with a bladeless tip at the distal end. The bladeless tip has an outer surface with a proximal portion, a distal portion, and an intermediate portion. In a cross section in the proximal portion, the outer surface defines a circle. In a cross section in the intermediate portion, the outer surface defines a shape having a length greater than a width. The outer surface has first and second opposing surface portions of the shape that are generally aligned with the length. In a cross section in the distal portion, the outer surface defines a circle. In progressive proximal cross sections in the distal portion, the circle expands. In progressive proximal cross sections in the intermediate portion, a ratio of the width of the shape to the length of the shape increases and the first and second opposing surface portions are more arcuate.

  • Patent number: 8277335
Abstract: A golf club head includes a body defining an interior cavity. The body includes a sole positioned at a bottom portion of the golf club head, a crown positioned at a top portion, and a skirt positioned around a periphery between the sole and crown. The body has a forward portion and a rearward portion. The club head includes a face positioned at the forward portion of the body. The face defines a striking surface having an ideal impact location at a golf club head origin. Some embodiments of the club head form a club head for a fairway wood that has a high moment of inertia, a low center-of-gravity and a thin crown.

  • Publication number: 20120165852
Abstract: A surgical obturator comprising an elongate shaft extending along an axis between a proximal end and a distal end includes a bladeless tip disposed at the distal end of the shaft. The tip has a blunt point and a pair of shorter side surfaces separated by a relatively longer pair of opposing surfaces to form in radial cross-section a geometric shape that has a longer length and relatively narrower width. The side surfaces and opposing surfaces terminate in end surfaces located proximally from the blunt point. The end surfaces extend radially outwardly from opposite locations of the outer surface. A conical surface facilitates initial insertion of the obturator and the geometric shape facilitates separation of consecutive layers of muscle tissue having fibers oriented in different directions and provides proper alignment of the tip between the layers of muscle.

  • Publication number: 20120012298
Abstract: The present invention is generally directed toward an apparatus and method for the heating of an aqueous mixture to vaporization, more specifically toward the heating of dilution air through a dilution air heating coil that is placed within the path of exhaust gas. In a power plant utilizing an emissions reduction process, such as a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) process, or other type of process, to remove harmful components, such as nitrous oxide (NO.sub.x), from a stream of flue gas wherein the emission reduction process includes the injection of vaporized aqueous mixture into the stream of flue gas, the present invention comprises a dilution air heating coil being placed within the path of exhaust gas to heat dilution air that is then subsequently used in the vaporization of the ammonia.
