Processors may search patient medical files and medical documents to find keys and/or codes associated with the medical services or supplies. Processors may determine costs associated with the medical services or supplies based on the found medical codes. Processors may also create billing documents including all or part the cost and automatically send the billing documents to entities responsible for payment of the medical services or supplies.

An animal medical memory device may be assigned to an animal and used to store the animal's medical record, which may be accessible to a veterinary healthcare professional. The medical record may be updated with new medical information derived from a visit with a veterinary healthcare professional by storing the new medical information in a memory of the memory device and/or in a remote computer database. A memory reader and writer may be provided to read and write to the memory.
