  • Patent number: 10615887
Abstract: An apparatus and method for mitigating noise in a waveform from a signal-producing device. The method includes receiving the waveform from the signal-producing device, and decomposing the waveform into low frequency (LF) and high frequency (HF) components. The method also includes determining an instant amplitude of the HF component, and employing the instant amplitude of the HF component and possibly the LF component to obtain a noise correction value for the LF component. The method further includes adding the obtained noise correction value to the LF component to obtain an output signal.

Date of Patent: April 7, 2020
    Assignee: SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY LLC

  • Patent number: 10586562
Abstract: A hybrid dual reader. The hybrid dual reader includes first and second read sensors with conflicting design characteristics. The first read sensor includes at least one signal-to-noise ratio favoring design characteristic. The second read sensor includes at least one pulse width favoring design characteristic. The at least one signal-to-noise ratio favoring design characteristic is in conflict with the at least one pulse width favoring design characteristic.

  • Patent number: 10468055
Abstract: A multi-sensor reader includes first and second read sensors. The first read sensor includes a first sensor stack including a sensing layer having a magnetization that changes according to an external magnetic field, and a first biasing component configured to magnetically bias the sensing layer of the first sensor stack in a first direction. The second read sensor includes a second sensor stack including a sensing layer having a magnetization that changes according to an external magnetic field, and a second biasing component configured to magnetically bias the sensing layer of the second sensor stack in a second direction that is substantially opposite the first direction.

  • Patent number: 9886974
Abstract: A reader having a bearing surface, a free layer, and a free layer biasing structure. The free layer biasing structure includes at least one side shield that applies a first bias field level to a front portion of the free layer that is nearest to the bearing surface and applies a second bias field level to a rear portion of the free layer that is farthest from the bearing surface. The second bias field level is greater than the first bias field level.

  • Patent number: 9659586
Abstract: A read sensor that includes an unbalanced synthetic antiferromagnetic (SAF) free layer structure. The unbalanced SAF free layer structure includes a first magnetic layer having a first magnetic moment value and a second magnetic layer having a second magnetic moment value that is different from the first magnetic moment value. A separation layer is included between the first magnetic layer and the second magnetic layer. The first magnetic layer and the second magnetic layer are antiferromagnetically coupled.

  • Publication number: 20140168818
Abstract: Implementations described and claimed herein provide a read sensor structure having a synthetic anti-ferromagnetic (SAF) structure with a pinning that is canted with respect to an air bearing surface (ABS) of the read sensor. In an implementation of the read sensor, the angle between the pinning direction of a reference layer (RL) and the pinning direction of a free layer (FL) is obtuse.
