Publication number: 20240012159Abstract: GPS-based position reporting suffers from probabilistic error. The system and methods discussed herein reduce uncertainty by mapping a geometric figure that encompasses a GPS-based reported location and that bounds corresponding predetermined-as-more-probable true locations (MPTL's) among possible locations for the source of the reported location. The mapped figure is overlaid on a relatively accurate mapping of substantially adjacent polygonal areas. Areas of overlap are used for picking among the areas, the polygonal area most likely to be occupied by the source. In one embodiment, the polygonal areas are closely packed parking spots in a parking lot, garage or other like structure, the source is a customer's mobile phone and an attendant is tasked with quickly delivering ordered goods to the customer's parking spot.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 11, 2023Publication date: January 11, 2024Inventors: David Helms, Marc Wallace, Scott Yoder, Christopher Sexton

Patent number: 11609319Abstract: A radio presence-advertising signal (PAS) a PAS emitter is simultaneously received at two or more co-located directional antennas that are coupled to respective radio receivers. The antennas have reception sensitivity lobes that overlap to define a region of interest at the overlap. Substantially cotemporaneous signal strength indications are obtained from the radio receivers. A difference signal representative of a difference between two of the obtained signal strength indications of the respective antennas is generated. An average signal representative of a running average of two or more of the obtained signal strength indications is generated and used to produce a normalized confidence indicator indicating a level of confidence that the PAS emitter is disposed inside (e.g., centered in) the region of interest or alternatively indicating a level of confidence that the PAS emitter is disposed outside the region of interest. Action is taken or avoided based on the confidence signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2019Date of Patent: March 21, 2023Assignee: Radius Networks, Inc.Inventors: David Helms, Timothy Judkins, Scott Yoder, Francis Nguyen, Marc Wallace

Patent number: 11494749Abstract: Technology is disclosed for automatically building an expandable invoice for incurred charges based on recognition of charge-incurring activities by persons whose specific identities are not known via the activity recognition process. A separate process detects location of sourcing and time for a Patron-presence and Patron-identifying Advertising radio Signal (P/PAS) repeatedly broadcast by a P/PAS emitter possessed by each participating patron. Records from the two processes are matched and combined based on substantial proximity in time and space for the activity recognition and the presence detection. Payment on a pay-go-whenever-ready (PGWeR) basis is enabled with use of the built invoice. A patron can pay and leave whenever ready to do so without need for intervention by an on premise staff member.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2020Date of Patent: November 8, 2022Assignee: Radius Networks, Inc.Inventors: David Helms, Marc Wallace, Scott Yoder, Christopher Sexton

Patent number: 10924664Abstract: Enhanced battery edge detection devices, systems, and techniques are described herein. During an inspection process, an inspection system controls one or more non-visible light sources to illuminate a battery installed in an electronic device. The illumination activates a reflective pigment applied to at least a portion of an edge of the battery. The inspection system controls one or more cameras to capture at least one image of the illuminated battery installed in the electronic device. The at least one image is processed to detect the edge of the battery and to measure a gap size between the edge of the battery and a region of the electronic device proximate the edge of the battery. The electronic device and battery are flagged for further inspection if the measured gap size is below a threshold indicative of a zero gap event.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2018Date of Patent: February 16, 2021Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Gregory Scott Yoder, Minsoo Kim

Publication number: 20200130342Abstract: Adhesive devices for use with components of various systems, in particular electrical or thermally sensitive systems. The adhesive device includes a light-sensitive adhesive disposed adjacent to a light-transmissive material. The de-bonding process includes irradiating the light-transmissive material, thereby exposing any adjacent adhesive to the light as well. Because the adhesive material can include a bonding material that is configured to de-bond when exposed to the light, the disassembly of devices without risk to neighboring components is simplified.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2018Publication date: April 30, 2020Applicant: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Gregory Scott YODER, Craig Daniel OWEN

Patent number: 10484831Abstract: The disclosure relates to technology for determining a location of a user in a physical venue without need for the user to carry extraneous devices. The method includes installing a background peripheral service (BPS) in a personal mobile device routinely carried by the user where the BPS outputs a temporary ID sequence (TID) when activated. The signal strength of the TID is measured at scanner locations each time the BPS is activated and the measured strengths are used to determine the location of the user. The TID is used to identify an order placed by the user for goods and/or services. This allows a human server to locate the user and deliver the goods and/or services to that user.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 2018Date of Patent: November 19, 2019Assignee: Radius Networks Inc.Inventors: David Helms, Marc Wallace, Scott Yoder, Michael Harper, James Nebeker, Christopher Sexton

Patent number: 9722492Abstract: A direct current (DC)-DC converter that includes a first switching converter and a multi-stage filter is disclosed. The multi-stage filter includes at least a first inductance (L) capacitance (C) filter and a second LC filter coupled in series between the first switching converter and a DC-DC converter output. The first LC filter has a first LC time constant and the second LC filter has a second LC time constant, which is less than the first LC time constant. The first LC filter includes a first capacitive element having a first self-resonant frequency, which is about equal to a first notch frequency of the multi-stage filter.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2015Date of Patent: August 1, 2017Assignee: Qorvo US, Inc.Inventors: Chris Levesque, William David Southcombe, David E.
