Publication number: 20240073416Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for encoding and decoding an image by skip encoding. The image-encoding method by skip encoding, which performs intra-prediction, comprises: performing a filtering operation on the signal which is reconstructed prior to an encoding object signal in an encoding object image; using the filtered reconstructed signal to generate a prediction signal for the encoding object signal; setting the generated prediction signal as a reconstruction signal for the encoding object signal; and not encoding the residual signal which can be generated on the basis of the difference between the encoding object signal and the prediction signal, thereby performing skip encoding on the encoding object signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2023Publication date: February 29, 2024Applicants: Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Kwangwoon University Industry-Academic Collaboration Foundation, Universily-lndustry Cooperation Group of Kyung Hee UniversityInventors: Sung Chang LIM, Ha Hyun LEE, Se Yoon JEONG, Hui Yong KIM, Suk Hee CHO, Jong Ho KIM, Jin Ho LEE, Jin Soo CHOI, Jin Woong KIM, Chie Teuk AHN, Dong Gyu SIM, Seoung Jun OH, Gwang Hoon PARK, Sea Nae PARK, Chan Woong JEON

Publication number: 20240004125Abstract: A system may have windows. A window in the system may have first and second window layers such as structural layers of glass. The window may have a light guide layer between the first and second window layers. The light guide layer may have cladding layers and a core layer between the cladding layers. The core and cladding refractive index values may be selected so that the refractive index of the core is greater than the refractive index of the structural layers of glass while the refractive index of the claddings is less than the refractive index of the structural layer of glass. Light-scattering structures may be formed on the light guide to extract some of the light within the light guide and thereby provide illumination for the system.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 18, 2023Publication date: January 4, 2024Inventors: David E Kingman, Clarisse Mazuir, Lai Wang, Se Hyun Ahn, Yongxing Hu, Yuan Chen

Patent number: 11822165Abstract: A display may have display layers that form an array of pixels. An angle-of-view adjustment layer may overlap the display layers. The angle-of-view adjustment layer may include an array of adjustable light blocking structures formed from electrochromic material. The electrochromic material may be interposed between first and second electrode layers. When it is desired to operate the display in a private viewing mode, control circuitry may apply a current to the first and second electrodes that causes the electrochromic material to become more opaque, thereby restricting the angle of view of the display. When it is desired to operate the display in a public viewing mode, control circuitry may apply a current to the first and second electrodes that causes the electrochromic material to become more transparent, thereby opening up the angle of view of the display.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2020Date of Patent: November 21, 2023Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Cihan Yilmaz, Supriya Goyal, Shih-Chyuan Fan Jiang, Paul V. Patent number: 11448908Abstract: A display may have display layers that form an array of pixels. An angle-of-view adjustment layer may overlap the display layers. The angle-of-view adjustment layer may include an array of adjustable louvers that move from a first position in which the angle of view of the display is restricted for a private viewing mode and a second position in which the angle of view of the display is not restricted for a normal viewing mode. The louvers may contain electrophoretic particles. The louvers may be tapered and may have a width at one end that is less than ten microns. The electrophoretic particles may form isolated clusters on a lower substrate in normal viewing mode to increase the transmittance of the display in normal viewing mode. The angle-of-view adjustment layer may be a second liquid crystal display layer that is used to block off-axis light.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2019Date of Patent: September 20, 2022Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Shih-Chyuan Fan Jiang, Paul V. Patent number: 11391874Abstract: An electronic device may have a display such as an organic light-emitting diode display. A compensation film may be used to correct the color shift in the display. The compensation film may include a layer of liquid crystals and dye aligned with the liquid crystals. The dye may be configured to absorb different amounts of light depending on an angle that the light passes through the compensation film. Higher angled light will have a longer path length through the compensation film and therefore more of the higher angled light will be absorbed by the dye. The dye may therefore compensate for the color shift that occurs at high viewing angles.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2020Date of Patent: July 19, 2022Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jung Yun Seuh, Se Hyun Ahn, Zhibing Ge
