  • Patent number: 5986855
Abstract: A head drum assembly is provided with a pair of oilless bearings installed within a bore of a stationary drum. Each of the oilless bearings is of a general donut-shaped configuration. A cross section thereof is provided with an external circular shape portion, an upper and a lower bearing surfaces. The upper and the lower bearing surfaces define an inner bore of the oilless bearing into which a rotating shaft are received, and slantly extend from the pair of planar portions, respectively, meeting at an apex in equal angles.

  • Patent number: 5982589
Abstract: A head drum assembly for use in a video cassette recorder includes a rotary drum having a through hole and a threaded hole, a video head composed of a head chip for recording/reproducing signals on a magnetic tape, and a base plate divided into a fixed portion and a mounting portion for mounting the head chip, wherein the fixed portion of the base plate is formed with an aperture corresponding to the threaded hole of the rotary drum in such a way that the video head is installed on a lower surface of the rotary drum by engaging a fastening screw therethrough, and is formed with a slot, and a deformable member inserted into the slot in such a way that, when the deformable member is impinged by a laser beam, the head chip mounting portion of the base plate moves downwardly by a volume expansion of the deformable member.

  • Patent number: 5808842
Abstract: A head drum assembly for use in a magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus includes a member for supporting a tape in such a way that, the tape is allowed to smoothly come into contact with a head chip. The supporting member has a fixed portion for engaging with a rotary drum, a pair of extending portions outwardly extending from the fixed portion, two pairs of divided portions each pair of which are outwardly divided from the extending portion, and two pairs of bent portion, each of the bent portions angled toward side of the head chip and having an outer side for supporting the tape running in vicinity of the head chips, whereby the tape is allowed to smoothly come into contact with the head chip without getting damaged.

  • Patent number: 5734213
Abstract: A head drum assembly for use in a VCR comprises a rotating shaft; a rotary drum; a stationary drum fitted around the rotating shaft; a pair of bearing assemblies that allow the rotating shaft and the rotating drum to rotate easily; a motor rotor; a motor stator; an electromagnet of a predetermined polarity, placed on a bottom surface of the motor stator, and activated by a voltage applied to it when the rotary drum is rotating; a permanent magnet, having the same polarity as the electromagnet, and being placed on an upper surface of the motor rotor opposite the electromagnet. Such a head drum assembly achieves smooth rotation of its rotary drum by applying the necessary pressure uniformly along an inner ring of its bearing assembly. Furthermore, by selectively applying pressure to the inner ring of the bearing assembly only at times of operation, i.e., when the rotary drum is rotating, the inventive head drum assembly minimizes wear and tear of the bearing assemblies, prolonging their lifespan.

  • Patent number: 5677816
Abstract: The head drum assembly for use in a VCR, which is capable of preventing a resonance, comprises a rotating shaft, a flange, a rotary drum, a plurality of heads, an upper and a lower sets of bearings, a stationary drum, a motor rotor and a motor stator, a pre-pressing boss, and a flexible assembly and a rigid assembly. The flexible assembly and the rigid assembly are coupled, in turn, to a portion of the rotating shaft between the pre-pressing boss and a top surface of the motor rotor and to an end portion of the rotating shaft protruding from bottom of the motor rotor, respectively.
