The filter assembly comprises a hydrophobic filter media component; a first enclosure with an inlet (second) port communicating with an inwardly facing surface carrying a plurality of first channels, a first annular sidewall surrounding the first channels, and the first annular sidewall carrying a first mating feature at a free end thereof; a second enclosure having an outlet (first) port which communicating with an inwardly facing surface carrying a plurality of second channels, and a second mating feature surrounding the second channels. The first and second enclosures matingly engaging with one another so that the first and the second mating features mate with one another and the first and second enclosures define a filter chamber therebetween which captively retains the hydrophobic filter media component within the filter chamber having minimal dead space.
