  • Patent number: 8571560
Abstract: What is disclosed is a method of operating a wireless communication device. The method includes detecting a plurality of beacon signals, wherein each of the plurality of beacon signals is associated with each of a plurality of wireless access nodes. The method also includes receiving status information from each of the plurality of wireless access nodes, wherein the status information comprises a modulation level of a wireless link associated with each of the plurality of wireless access nodes. The method also includes selecting one of the plurality of wireless access nodes based on at least the modulation level of the wireless link associated with the one of the plurality of wireless access nodes, modulating user communications based on the modulation level of the wireless link associated with the selected one of the plurality of wireless access nodes, and exchanging the modulated user communications with the selected one of the plurality of wireless access nodes.

  • Patent number: 8509417
Abstract: A first voice call is put in an on-hold state in response to a resource being unavailable. In response to putting the first voice call in the on-hold state, a first data communication is transferred for delivery to the communication device. The first data communication drives the communication device to display an offer for a media service. A second data communication transferred by the communication device is received indicating that the offer has been accepted. The first data communication drives the communication device, in response to the acceptance of the offer, to transfer the second data communication and to retrieve media from the media service. The first voice call is terminated in response to receiving the second data communication. A second voice call is established with the communication device in response to the resource becoming available.

  • Patent number: 8161174
Abstract: A method and system are provided to derive time attributes for a device. An embodiment of the method includes obtaining a time attribute based on a device-mode and a corresponding time attribute based on a device-location. The corresponding time attributes are compared. Upon comparison, if the time attribute based on a device-mode differs from the time attribute based on a device-location, an update indication to modify the first time attribute to conform with the second time attribute is communicated.

  • Patent number: 8126439
Abstract: Multimedia services are provided to a subscriber within a domain of a communication network, wherein the subscriber utilizes one or more predetermined access terminals to access the multimedia services according to a network presence configuration of the subscriber. Each access terminal has respective multimedia capabilities, and the domain includes an application server for accessing the multimedia services. A user profile is established for the subscriber relating respective presence identifiers to a respective user service definition, wherein each user service definition specifies a set of the predetermined access terminals and respective multimedia services to be available for a respective network presence configuration. A current presence identifier of the subscriber is registered. The application server accesses the user profile to determine a user service definition corresponding to the current presence identifier.
