  • Patent number: 9341184
Abstract: A coupling system for receiving a push rod includes a housing defining an internal channel having a sloped wall, and a piston received within the internal channel. The piston includes at least one flexible member arranged within the channel to be acted upon by the sloped wall to engage the push rod. The only external force required to couple the push rod is an axial force on the piston in a direction. The only external force required to de-couple the push rod is an axial force on the piston in an opposite direction.

  • Publication number: 20140066858
Abstract: Vacuum-operated safety syringes designed to prevent an accidental needle prick, where the needle of the syringe is retracted after use into a vacuum created within the hollow plunger and/or the syringe barrel of the syringe. Retraction of the needle assembly is accomplished from minimal moving parts according to an exceedingly simple design. In some embodiments, one or more one-way valves prevent airflow into the interior of the syringe barrel and thereby maintain the vacuum that is created during the act of injection. In some embodiments, the plunger of the safety syringe is manufactured to be pre-conditioned at negative pressure.

  • Patent number: 8403886
Abstract: A needle guard includes a clip with a canting wall to grip the needle shaft and a distal wall to block the tip thereof, wherein the canting and distal walls may be interconnected by an angled strut, a spring member, such as a leaf spring, may have a portion extending past an edge of the strut to bias the clip to grip the needle shaft, and the distal wall may be or include a stylus and have an L-shape to define a lip to help block the needle tip. The clip may have a depending heel to help pivot the clip about a ledge to grip the needle shaft. A needle support may be provided to limit flexure of the needle which might otherwise allow the needle to come loose from the clip. Arrangements for limiting rotation of the needle hub and needle guard housing are provided, as is a protective shroud to reduce the risk of inadvertent activation of the needle guard. Further, the needle guard may be used with a catheter assembly. Also provided is an improved duckbill release mechanism.
