  • Publication number: 20110270117
Abstract: An electroencephalogram (EEG) utilizing epileptiform activity detection, warning and recording system adapted for use by non-healthcare professionals or healthcare professionals. The system is simple enough for use by untrained personnel and will be self-contained, not requiring technical setup or point of use maintenance. The system includes a small number of passive or active scalp electrodes for capturing the electrical signals in the subject's brain allowing for detection of epileptiform activity. The system will recognize epileptiform activity and will either transmit signals upon detection of epileptiform activity to either a localized warning device or to a cellular or radio receiving device. The system will note epileptiform activity in a recording component and allow for review of the epileptiform data to allow non-clinical and clinical personnel to verify such activity.

  • Publication number: 20070217435
Abstract: These various embodiments are usable in a context that comprises a first network that serves to communicatively couple an entity within a second network (which second network is different than the first network) with an end user platform. Pursuant to these teachings this entity is identified as having a predetermined status with respect to being provided with information regarding at least one first network event. When the first network event is detected within the first network, a message is provided to the entity regarding this first network event. By one approach the entity can acquire the indicated status via a subscription process.

  • Publication number: 20070091836
Abstract: A communication system provides network-based battery power management that may be transparent to a user of a mobile station (MS). When one or more elements of a network of the communication system determines that the MS is operating at a low power supply charge level and/or has experienced a significant change in a charging level of the power supply, the one or more network elements may arrange for postponement of delivery of a delay-tolerant service to the MS or for adjustment of one or more of a characteristic of a service provided to the MS and a parameter of a radio communication with the MS, including restoration of full services to an MS whose power supply charge level has been restored.

  • Publication number: 20070070942
Abstract: A method and apparatus for creating a semi-active state that reduces channel establishment delay. A communication channel between a mobile station (402) and a radio access network (RAN) (404). The communication channel has a semi-active state between the mobile station and the RAN by preassigning at least one resource to identify the communication channel. In To determine whether the channel is to be made active, the preassigned resource is monitor. When resource indicates that data is to be sent, the channel is converted from the semi-active state to an active state. Data is then transmitted over the communication channel in the active state.

  • Publication number: 20070033278
Abstract: Various embodiments are described for providing a list-based service. One group of embodiments involves receiving a subscription to a list to which multiple list members are associated and then providing a notification when an aggregated state of the list satisfies a condition. The aggregated state of the list is based on at least a portion of the state information that pertains to each of the list members. Another group of embodiments involves sending (603) a subscription to a list to which multiple list members are associated and then receiving (605) a notification when an aggregated state of the list satisfies a condition. List-based services, such as presence, can benefit from notifications that are based on a list's aggregated state satisfying some condition.

  • Patent number: 7158502
Abstract: To address the need for a dispatch mobile (303, 305, 307) to more quickly make a call, in the preferred embodiment of the present invention those remote units operating in a dispatch mode (303, 305, 307) will receive a first slot cycle, while those remote units not operating in a dispatch mode (302, 304, 306, 308) will receive a second slot cycle. The second slot cycle is greater than the first slot cycle, so that those remote units operating in dispatch mode (303, 305, 307) will “wake up” during the slot cycle normally utilized for interconnect calls. Because shorter slot cycles are utilized for remote units operating in dispatch mode (303, 305, 307), the time it takes to make a dispatch call is greatly reduced. Additionally the minimum slot cycle duration typically used for standard calls remains unchanged, greatly conserving battery life.

  • Publication number: 20060276214
Abstract: Various embodiments are described for establishing a group call session serially. After receiving a serial group call request from a remote unit (101), fixed network equipment (FNE) (201) selects a first subset of members (260) from the targeted group (250) of units and signals those members to join the group call session. Various techniques for selecting the first subset may be employed depending on what system benefits are desired. A second subset of members (270) from the targeted group of units is also selected and signaled to join the session. This second subset may be used to invite additional units in order to achieve a maximum number of group participants. Alternatively, the second subset may be used to invite a different unit (or units) to participate. This can be triggered by a user request to invite another subset to the group session, as could occur when the user is not able to resolve the particular matter at-hand with the group members of the first subset.

  • Publication number: 20060268768
Abstract: A communication system is provided that minimizes access message collisions when multiple mobile stations attempt to access a network after updating configuration information and/or access parameters information via a same overhead message by providing for each such mobile station to determine whether, or when, to convey an access message based on a time period corresponding to a wait for the overhead message by the mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20060251033
Abstract: Various embodiments are described for signaling an ad-hoc group of mobile units (MUs). The ad-hoc group may be a group of MUs for which signaling awaits transmission via a wireless communication resource (111). Signaling such a group involves deriving a mobile unit group identifier (MUGI) by combining individual mobile unit identifiers (MUIs) of the targeted ad-hoc group. The individual MUIs are either an identifier of each MU or derived from an identifier of each MU. The derived MUGI is then included in combined signaling that is transmitted (by RAN 121, e.g.) via the wireless communication resource. A receiving MU (101) determines whether the MUGI could have been derived from its MUI in combination with at least one other MU's MUI. When it determines that the MUGI could have been derived from its MUI, the receiving MU processes the signaling as directed to itself.

  • Publication number: 20060234676
Abstract: A communication system controls access of a mobile station (MS) to a wireless communication network by generating a RAND Token and conveying the RAND Token and associated constraints to the MS prior to a determination by the MS of a need to access the communication network, wherein the RAND Token is used to authenticate the MS and need not be confirmed prior to the access attempt. By providing the MS with a RAND Token that need not be confirmed, as opposed to the prior art where an MS cannot know whether a global random challenge value provided to the MS prior to a determination by the MS of a need to access the communication network is stale and therefore must confirm the global random challenge value before using it, a call may be set up in an expedited fashion.

  • Publication number: 20060148493
Abstract: Paging is provided in a communication network, and implemented in a network infrastructure device (101). Multiple flows including a particular flow are assigned to one or more flow groups. Flow groups, including the foregoing flows, are assigned to at least one paging category, wherein the flow groups have a first paging slot. The paging category is transmitted (107) to one or more communication units (103), wherein the communication unit(s) (103) has requested the particular flow.
