  • Patent number: 11536320
Abstract: A constant velocity universal joint includes a body which encloses the constant velocity joint components and provides a smooth outer surface. A semi-rigid plastic boot has a spherical surface sized to generally match the outer surface of the body. The material of the boot is sufficiently elastic to allow the boot to fit over the body, yet sufficiently resilient to snap the open end closed after the boot is placed over the body to provide a substantial seal preventing entry of debris under the seal. A retaining ring is positioned on the boot near the truncated end, the ring establishing the location of an elastic seal that contacts the outer surface of the body.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: December 27, 2022
    Assignee: Aircraft Gear Corporation
    Inventor: Sean M. Carlini
  • Publication number: 20220403872
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for achieving a high strength bonded joint between a stub connector and a shaft.
    Type: Application
    Filed: March 10, 2022
    Publication date: December 22, 2022

  • Publication number: 20210372485
Abstract: A universal joint or other vehicle driveline assembly includes an inner race, an outer race, and bearings positioned between the races. In some embodiments, the components of the universal joint that are in contact with the bearings are selectively processed to be harder than the other non-contact surfaces of the component.

  • Patent number: 7229358
Abstract: A high performance constant velocity universal joint is based on a body which encloses the constant velocity joint components and provides a smooth spherical outer surface. A one-piece semi-rigid plastic boot in the form of a truncated sphere has a smooth internal spherical surface sized to match the outer surface of the body. The plastic of the boot is sufficiently elastic to allow the boot to snap over the body, yet sufficiently resilient to snap the open end closed after the boot is snapped over the body to provide a substantial seal preventing entry of debris under the seal. A retaining ring is positioned on the boot near the truncated end to resist plastic creep which would result in enlarging the opening and allowing debris to enter the seal.
