  • Patent number: 6672991
Abstract: A cardiovascular exercise program that includes selectable virtual and real time directed and/or guided exercises particularly adapted for stationary exercise equipment. The program may be performed by individuals in virtual or actual groups. The program allows individual participants to ascertain their ongoing physical conditions such that the participants may customize the exercise program criteria to reflect recognition of such ongoing physical conditions. The program may be performed in a delayed or real-time mode, and includes a particular form of guidance that enables an individual to achieve objectives of self awareness and exercising at appropriate levels through a unique combination of verbal queues, guidance, motivation, entertainment, community, participation, and achievement monitoring. Thus, an individual can increase his or her level of fitness by controlling their perceived level of exertion and the performance of their heart during exercise through guidance and monitoring.

  • Publication number: 20030172283
Abstract: A wireless remote control device for use with television receivers, satellite down converters and similar devices, uses biometric characteristics of a user to determine the functionality to be imbued to the remote control device. A biometric scanner, such as a capacitive fingerprint scanner, coupled to a processor, compares scanned characteristics to stored characteristics to determine the identity of the user. By using biometric characteristics to identify the user, passwords, PIN numbers, keys and other indicia used to establish authorization of a user enable the authorized user to access programming and subject matter unsuitable for or unintended for unauthorized users.

  • Publication number: 20030080194
Abstract: A biometric water mixing valve uses a measured biometric characteristic to identify a user and to identify the user's preferred output water temperature and/or output water volume. Hot and cold water flow are mixed in amounts required to yield an output discharge temperature that the identified user prefers. By using a biometric characteristic, a preferred discharge water temperature and/or volume can be achieved merely by having the biometric characteristic scanned.

  • Publication number: 20030058084
Abstract: Security on airplanes and other common carrier carriages is enhanced by establishing the identity of travelers and documenting their true identity as established by biometric characteristics that irrefutably identify an individual. A biometric characteristic is measured at the time of ticketing. The biometric characteristic is measured at the time of boarding to insure that the person who purchased passage and the person who boards are one and the same. Electronic copies of identifying data can be stored and shipped to external data bases.

  • Publication number: 20020142887
Abstract: A cardiovascular exercise method and system embodying a combination of guidance, motivation, entertainment, community, participation and achievement monitoring. Combined into one integrated system are selectable virtual and real time directed and/or guided exercises particularly adapted for stationary exercise equipment. Such equipment includes spinning bikes, upright bikes, recumbent bikes, elliptical machines, stair stepper/climbers and treadmill/trekers, cross-country simulators and rowing machines. Provision is made for performance by individuals in virtual or actual groups. Also included are audio-visual accompaniment selectable from music, nature sounds and exercise-related sounds for enhancing the exercise experience from the perspective of guidance, motivation, entertainment and achievement monitoring.

  • Publication number: 20020135613
Abstract: A personalized user environment on a computing system is provided. Upon detection of user-supplied storage media, a profile configuration program is run. The profile configuration program obtains profile information stored on the user-supplied storage media and temporarily installs the profile information on the computing system. The particular items are configured automatically based on information within the user-supplied storage media, or alternatively, may be tailored in response to particular instructions from a user indicating which items the user wants configured on the computing system. For additional protection, a password can be obtained from the user and verified before configuring the computing system.

  • Patent number: 6138292
Abstract: A novelty cover used for commercial advertising, for the flush handle of commercially made toilets and urinals. One is a container, where printed matter which illustrates a particular advertisement is inserted between two tubes that make up a unitary piece. A second is a molded replica of a novelty piece or the actual product being advertised. Each embodiment is attached in the same manner by a Nylon, plastic, or rubber sleeve that slides onto the metal flush handle of a toilet and tightly fit onto the smallest diameter of the toilet flush handle by at least two Allen screws.

  • Patent number: 5833683
Abstract: A laser medical device for delivering energy to tissue to be treated. The device includes a laser energy transmitting conduit having a longitudinal axis, and has a proximal end for connection to a source of laser energy and a distal end from which laser energy transmitted by the conduit is emitted. A laser energy redirecting member is located adjacent the distal end of the conduit for redirecting the laser energy in a lateral direction with respect to the axis of the conduit, and a tissue contact member is provided adjacent the laser energy redirecting member. The tissue contact member has a transverse cross section of preselected shape and a longitudinal axis generally transverse to the axis of the conduit. The tissue contact member further has an input surface for receiving laser energy redirected by the laser energy redirecting member and transmitting the laser energy received from the laser energy redirecting member.

  • Patent number: 5350025
Abstract: A fluid-activated, percussive impact tool has a piston therein that reciprocates longitudinally but not rotationally. The piston activates a wrap spring clutch to rotate the drill steel. A removable splined nut in combination with the tool's housing restrains rotation of the piston, while permitting longitudinal reciprocation of the piston.
