  • Publication number: 20240110035
Abstract: Provided according to embodiments of the invention are electrical stress grading compositions that include a polymer, inorganic nanoplatelets, and inorganic filler particles, wherein the inorganic nanoplatelets and the inorganic filler particles are dispersed in the polymer. Also provided are electrical devices that include such electrical stress grading compositions including, for example, power cable accessories, insulators, bushings, and surge arrestors. Further provided according to embodiments of the invention are methods of forming electrical stress grading compositions.

  • Publication number: 20040253433
Abstract: A sheet-like electrical stress control article includes at least one void-filling layer of elastomeric void-filling material having some electrical stress control functionality (for example, containing 20 to 70% by weight of electrically conductive or semi-conductive fillers) and at least one support layer of elastomeric material selected and/or formulated (for example, with 45 to 65% by weight fillers) to require increasing applied stress to produce therein a given unit of strain as it approaches its break point The thickness and composition of the respective layers are selected so that the article is stretchable during application thereof to parts of a cable and the increasing stress required to stretch the support layer resists over-elongation of the void-filling layer.

  • Patent number: 6337440
Abstract: Recoverable articles including an inner resilient tubular member that is held in a laterally expanded configuration by engagement with an outer holdout member are provided. The outer surface of the inner member is provided with a plurality of channels extending therealong. The holdout member occupies the channels so as to provide the holdout engagement. The holdout engagement is arranged to be weakened mechanically without any substantial change in the molecular structural properties of the holdout member, thereby to allow recovery of the inner tubular member towards its unexpanded configuration.

  • Patent number: 6230746
Abstract: A recoverable article includes an inner resilient tubular member that is held in a laterally exapanded configuration by engagement with outer holdout strips, wherein the outer surface of the inner member is provided with a plurality of channels extending therealong and the holdout strips occupies the channels so as to provide said holdout engagement, wherein the holdout strips is arranged to be removed intact without any substantial change in the molecular structural properties of the holdout strips; thereby to allow recovery of the inner tubular member towards its unexpanded configuration.

  • Patent number: 6189575
Abstract: A recoverable article comprising an inner resilient tubular member that is held out in a laterally expanded configuration by engagement with outer holdout structure, wherein the outer surface of the inner member is provided with a plurality of cavities, and wherein the holdout structure occupies the cavities so as to provide the holdout engagement, wherein the holdout structure comprises at least one initiating portion that is structurally different from the remaining portion that engages at least one associated cavity, whereby release of the initiating portion from its cavity facilitates subsequent release of the remaining portion of the holdout structure.

  • Patent number: 5869153
Abstract: Heat-shrinkable sleeves of relatively opaque polymeric material having a relatively transparent integral strip (or other formation) to facilitate positioning of the sleeve on an article about which it is to be shrunk. The opaque portions of the sleeves preferably incorporate sufficient flame-retardant additives to compensate for the absence of such additives from the transparent portions, which transparent portions preferably occupy less of the sleeve surface than the opaque portions.

  • Patent number: 5736208
Abstract: A heat shrinkable shed (2) is mounted on a power cable (12) and sealed thereto by a hot-melt adhesive (10). Four projections (8) are equispaced around the interior surface of the shed (2) to penetrate the adhesive (10) and to engage the outer surface of the cable (12) to enhance the longitudinal retention of the shed (2) on the cable (12), particularly under conditions of thermal cycling.
