  • Publication number: 20220085566
Abstract: An erbium fiber laser produces a beam of ultrashort laser pulses having a center wavelength greater than 780 nanometers, an average power greater than 0.5 watt, and a spectral bandwidth compressible to a pulse duration of less than 200 femtoseconds. The laser includes a fiber preamplifier that is energized by a counter-propagating pump beam, has relatively low population inversion in a relatively long optical gain fiber, and provides a spectrally-shaped beam for further amplification. Wavelength dependent gain and absorption within the optical gain fiber enhances longer wavelengths relative to shorter wavelengths in the spectrally-shaped beam. The spectral shaping is sufficient to overcome gain narrowing and gain shifting in a subsequent high-gain fiber amplifier.

  • Publication number: 20070174461
Abstract: A set of multiple servers in which each server (a) provides a service having a name or other identifier, and for which each server (b) has a network address that differs from the network addresses of the other servers in the set, and (c) is co-located with a resolution mechanism that maps a name or other identifier of the service that is received from a client to a network address that is local to the resolution mechanism. The resolution mechanisms are operated to enable a client to choose one of the servers as being currently operational and/or accessible to provide the service to the client, and to so choose the server without the client needing to first access the chosen server.

  • Publication number: 20070026481
Abstract: A method for the presumptive detection of the presence or absence and relative dominance of the toxic mold Stachybotrys chartarum collected from an environmental surface via a swab or other sampling device. The method of growth and color development of the sample utilizes dehydrated biological growth plates, pre measured hydration ampules, a liquid spreader press and a mold growth color key chart. The development of a characteristic shade of brown-colored mold colonies, unique to the Petrifilmâ„¢ YM biological growth plate, confirms the presence of Stachybotrys chartarum. The absence of the color permits the conclusion that Stachybotrys chartarum is absent in the sample. This color development method may be used to presumptively identify other molds commonly found growing on wet, building materials.
