  • Patent number: 9403087
Abstract: A system and method for associating virtual spaces with physical analogs in the real world. Associating virtual spaces with physical analogs may enable various aspects of the virtual spaces, such as the content of the virtual spaces, the manner in which the virtual spaces are accessed by users, and/or other aspects of the virtual spaces, to correspond to the real world. For example, upon initiation of a client that provides a view of one or more virtual spaces to a user, the user may automatically be provided with a view of a virtual space associated with one or more physical analogs that are proximate to the user in the real world. As another example, content within the virtual space may reflect ambient conditions at or near associated physical analog(s), the presence and/or condition of objects at or near the associated physical analog(s), the location and/or condition of the physical analog(s), and/or other information related to the physical analog in the real world.

  • Publication number: 20150304454
Abstract: A system configured to provide one or more virtual spaces that are accessible to users. The virtual spaces may be provided such that an enhanced level of interactivity between the virtual spaces and the Web, including resources that communicate with the system via the Internet (e.g., via users, websites, webpages, other web resources, etc.) and/or other networks. To provide this enhanced level of interactivity, the system may enable interactions between an instance of a virtual space and the Web (e.g., queries, commands, communication, administrative controls, etc.) via a standard web protocol, such as a HyperText Transfer Protocol (e.g., http, https, etc.) and/or other standard web protocols. Since interactions take place between the instance of the virtual space and the Web via a standard web protocol, the instance of the virtual space may interact directly with Web resources such as web servers, web browsers, websites, webpages, and/or other Web resources.

  • Patent number: 8627212
Abstract: A system and method for providing a view of a virtual space to a user in a banner ad of a webpage. This enables an advertiser to provide content that is not merely static or scripted, but instead enabled provision of content through a web ad that represents activity within a virtual space (e.g., interactions of other users with the virtual space, content that changes based on current or recent events, etc.) in real time (or near real time). The provision of a virtual space in a web ad may be more effective than conventional web ad content.

  • Publication number: 20120059881
Abstract: A system and method for providing virtual spaces, where a character associated with a user can be manifested within instances of a plurality of the different virtual spaces. Since a single character can be manifested within instances of different virtual spaces, the character can be transferred by the corresponding user between instances of different virtual spaces and controlled by the user to interact with the different virtual spaces. When the user transfers the character between instances of different virtual spaces (and/or different types of virtual spaces), various aspects of the character may persist between the different virtual spaces (and/or the different types of virtual spaces). This may provide an enhanced continuity to the character between the different virtual spaces.

  • Publication number: 20090077475
Abstract: A system configured to provide one or more virtual spaces that are accessible to users. A given virtual space may include a plurality of places. Individual places within the virtual space may have spatial boundaries. The places may be differentiated from each other in that a set of parameters and/or characteristics of a given one of the places may be different than the set(s) of parameters and/or characteristics that correspond to other places in the virtual space. The sonic characteristics of the virtual space may be determined according to a hierarchy of acoustic areas within the virtual space.

  • Publication number: 20060104265
Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and program for configuring shared devices over a fabric. A module in a first processing complex configures a first part of a fabric enabling communication with a set of devices accessible through the first part of the fabric. The module detects a located device accessible through a second part of the fabric, wherein a second processing complex is designated to configure the second part of the fabric and the located device. The module determines whether the second processing complex is available in response to detecting the uninitialized device. The module passes to a device driver in the first processing complex an uninitialized property for the located device. The device driver requests the module to configure the second part of the fabric to enable access to the located device over the second part of the fabric in response to determining that the located device has the uninitialized property.

  • Publication number: 20040111383
Abstract: A computer system and method for calculating and estimating bulk product cost differentials is disclosed herein. Aspects of the invention improve upon modern methods for processing and evaluating bulk product items like salt or animal feed by reducing marketing costs while increasing product visibility. Furthermore, aspects of the invention allow a potential client to manipulate a variety factors and variables to customize a pricing estimate for their specific need. Once the factors have been defined, the estimator may automatically determine cost differentials for a single product or for comparing multiple products. Another aspect of the invention allows a client to seamlessly transition between configuring a cost savings estimate and purchasing the product. The invention may also be implemented in a variety of ways, including on a network like the Internet. An option may also exist that allows clients to input their own variables or factors or to submit customized methods for determining costs.
