Patent number: 8826542Abstract: In summary, the invention relates to a method for forming an end-side toothing arrangement of a roiling bearing, in particular a wheel bearing. The aim is to improve the uniformity of the end-side toothing arrangement and to allow a greater tooth depth. This is achieved by two method steps in that, in a first step before the reshaping of an end piece of a hub, a die is axially arranged on the rolling bearing in a preassembled state and, in a second step during the reshaping of the end piece and the shaping of the end-side toothing arrangement, the die radially delimits a radial recess of the rolling rivet collar as it forms. In addition, the die reduces or prevents radial widening of the inner ring.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2013Date of Patent: September 9, 2014Assignee: Schaeffler Technologies GmbH & Co. KGInventors: Roland Langer, Peter Niebling, Sebastian Lorenz

Patent number: 8523447Abstract: A wheel bearing arrangement that has a wheel hub, which is operatively connected to an outer ring by way of rolling elements and a wheel flange. The wheel flange, together with a protective ring forms a first gasket. The protective ring surrounding the outer ring of the wheel hearing arrangement. This approach is of particular interest for non-driven wheel bearing arrangements in which the side of the wheel bearing facing the vehicle can be protected by a cover used on the vehicle side.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2009Date of Patent: September 3, 2013Assignee: Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. Publication number: 20110241416Abstract: A rotary forming method for producing a rivet flange of a wheel hub on which a wheel bearing is mounted. A rivet flange is formed from a cylindrical part of a wheel huh by a hobbing tool oriented along a direction of the axis of rotation of the wheel hub. The method keeps material stresses low and accurately adjusts the preload of the bearing. For this purpose, first rotating rolling elements of at least one first row of rolling elements of the tool form the rivet flange. Axes of rotation of the first rolling elements form a first angle with the axis of rotation of the rolling bearing during the riveting operation, ensuring uniformity on the entire circumference of the cylindrical part of the wheel hub using a smaller deformation force while allowing the rolling bearing to be temporarily preloaded by a holding element even before the cold forming process.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 19, 2009Publication date: October 6, 2011Applicant: SCHAEFFLER TECHNOLOGIES GMBH & CO. KGInventors: Andreas Kaiser, Roland Langer, Sebastian Lorenz

Publication number: 20110170817Abstract: A device for axially fixing a rotatable part of a wheel bearing to a rotatable drive part of a drive shaft. The device provides a mounting auxiliary which enables inspection of the tooth position of a spur gearing. The device has a substantially cylindrical or ring-shaped attachment part and a locking element. Either the substantially cylindrical or ring-shaped attachment part is provided for attachment on the rotatable drive part, and the locking element is provided for locking to the rotatable wheel bearing part, or the substantially cylindrical or ring-shaped attachment part is provided for attachment to the rotatable wheel bearing part and the locking element is provided for locking to the rotatable drive part.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2009Publication date: July 14, 2011Applicant: SCHAEFFLER TECHNOLOGIES GMBH & CO. Publication number: 20100284736Abstract: For torque transmission, for example between an articulated shaft and a hub to a drive motor vehicle wheel, it is necessary to non-rotatably couple the articulated shaft or a corresponding intermediate piece and the hub to each other. For this purpose, a coupling element, particularly a hub element, is proposed for transmitting torque about a rotational axis that is oriented in an axial direction and has a serration, which extends in the peripheral direction about the rotational axis. The serration has a plurality of teeth. Each tooth is configured as a triangle in a longitudinal section along the peripheral direction such that two tooth faces are formed, which end in a tooth head region, and at least one of the tooth faces is configured convexly in the longitudinal section with respect to an imaginary straight reference tooth face.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2008Publication date: November 11, 2010Applicant: SCHAEFFLER TECHNOLOGIES GMBH & CO.
