  • Publication number: 20170268387
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a crankshaft rotatable about a crankshaft axis; a camshaft rotatable by the crankshaft about a camshaft axis; an engine cover defining an engine cover volume within the internal combustion engine; a drive member disposed within the engine cover volume which transfers rotational motion from the crankshaft to the camshaft; a camshaft phaser disposed within the engine cover volume which controllably varies the phase relationship between the crankshaft and the camshaft; an actuator which operates the camshaft phaser; and an actuator mount within the engine cover volume which mounts the actuator structurally independent of the engine cover, thereby allowing removal of the engine cover independently of the actuator.

  • Publication number: 20150275707
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a crankshaft rotatable about a crankshaft axis and a camshaft rotatable by the crankshaft about a camshaft axis. The internal combustion engine also includes an oil supply, an engine cover, and a drive member disposed within the engine cover for transferring rotational motion from the crankshaft to the camshaft. A camshaft phaser is disposed within the engine cover for controllably varying the phase relationship between the crankshaft and the camshaft by using oil from the oil supply. A sealing arrangement defines a dry zone to isolate the drive member from oil used to rotate the output member relative to the input member.

  • Patent number: 8677963
Abstract: An electrical camshaft phaser arrangement for controllably varying the phase relationship between a crankshaft and a camshaft in an internal combustion engine includes an adjusting gear drive unit formed as a three shafts transmission having a drive shaft connected with the crankshaft, an output shaft connected with the camshaft, and an adjusting shaft connected with the control shaft of an electrical machine. The electrical machine allows phasing the camshaft with regards to the crankshaft by increasing or decreasing control shaft speed, the control shaft being spinning during phase holding modes. The adjusting gear drive unit is configured such that an energy recovering mode is provided wherein a braking torque is applied to the control shaft in order to generate electrical energy.

  • Patent number: 6381548
Abstract: Method for measuring a fluid flow, in particular an air flow (L), flowing in a flow canal to an engine (VM) or from an engine (VM), by means of a fluid mass measuring means (3) connected to an evaluation means (2), wherein in a regularly performed cycle an operational parameter (D1, D2, . . . , Dn) characterizing the operating status of the engine (VM) is recorded, the data (M1, M2, . . . , Mn) supplied by the fluid mass measuring means (3) are recorded, at least one extreme value (Ep, En) is determined from the data (M1, M2, . . . , Mn) recorded since the beginning of a time period (t1, t2, . . . , tn), an average value (Wma) is determined from the recorded data (M1, M2, . . . , Mn), a pulsation amplitude (P1, P2, . . . , Pm) is determined by dividing the extreme value (Ep) by the average value (Wma), and the average value (Wma) is corrected by multiplying it by a correction factor (K11, K12, . . . , Kmn) which is selected in dependence on the operational parameter (D1, D2, . . .
