    Abstract: Some embodiments include a handheld device with programmable physical buttons. The physical buttons may be configured to perform different actions based on an orientation of the handheld device. Dynamically mapping actions to physical buttons may be based on an orientation condition that measures any one of orientation state of the device, a current application state, a change in the orientation state, or current device status. The actions may be updated automatically based on the orientation condition.
