  • Publication number: 20070083810
Abstract: An apparatus and method for adapting web page content are described. The adaptation of web page content for display on smaller intended display devices often requires the splitting of the content over a number of smaller pages. The apparatus and method relate to a procedure which integrates the process of splitting the content with applying transformations (for example, reducing the font size, images, etc) so as to optimise this process. The procedure is carried out systematically over the entire web page content, recursively splitting the content into smaller and smaller portions whilst simultaneously alternating this with various transformations so as to minimise the amount of white space visible on the smaller pages. Additionally, the preferred embodiment also tracks the transformations which have been applied to the objects and ensures consistency by applying them later to any similar objects.

  • Publication number: 20060184638
Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing adapted web page content to a client are described. Here, a variety of pre-generated versions of the same web content are stored in a server in advance of the receipt of client requests therefore. Each version is adapted to be displayed on a device with particular display characteristics. Then, when a client request for the content is received, the client display characteristics are determined, and the appropriate version for the client display characteristics selected from the stored versions. The selected version is then sent to the client. In a preferred embodiment, if there is no matching version to the client display characteristics, then a matching version is dynamically generated on the fly.

  • Publication number: 20060184639
Abstract: A web content adaptation process and system is described which allows for the automated production of different versions of web content with reference to a set of intended display device characteristics, and for the adapted content versions to be saved such that they can then be provided to a requesting user at a later date if required. Adaptation is performed by analysing the content of the original web content, and then applying a sequence of transformations in order to the content. After each transformation has been applied an evaluation is undertaken to determine if the transformed content is suitable for the intended display device.
