Abstract: A support for a photographic printing paper comprising a substrate and a waterproof resin coating layers provided on the both sides of the substrate, wherein at least the waterproof resin-coating provided on the side of the substrate on which an emulsion for forming an image is coated comprises i) a lowermost waterproof resin coating layer contacting the substrate and ii) at least one upper coating layer containing a waterproof resin capable of melt-extruded at a temperature of from 170.degree. to 290.degree. C. and containing uniformly dispersed titanium dioxide, and a method for manufacturing the support by melt extrusion.

Abstract: Disclosed is a photographic printing paper support comprising a waterproof substrate constituted of raw paper and polyolefin resin coats covering the both surfaces thereof, which further has on the back side of the substrate a backing layer containing at least (a) colloidal silica, (b) an aqueous dispersion of a styrene-acrylate copolymer prepared by the polymerization in the presence of a water-soluble high-molecular compound, (c) at least one substance selected from a group consisting of carboxyl or sulfo group-containing water-soluble high-molecular compounds, the metal salts thereof and hydrophilic organic high-molecular colloidal substances and (d) an aqueous dispersion of a polyolefin resin having a melting point below 100.degree.C.

Abstract: A support for photographic printing paper comprising a water resistant support comprising a raw paper with a polyethylene resin coated on both sides thereof, and a back layer provided on the support, wherein the back layer comprises:(a) colloidal silica;(b) an aqueous dispersion of a styrene-acrylate copolymer as obtained by polymerizing in the presence of a water-soluble polymer; and(c) at least one member selected from the group consisting of a water-soluble polymer compound containing a carboxylic group or a sulfone group, or its salt, and a hydrophilic organic polymer colloid.

Abstract: A method of curtain coating that applies a free falling curtain of liquid coating composition onto a running support is disclosed. In the method, the sides of the support parallel to the running direction of the support are bent downwardly before the curtain is applied, and thus are not coated, and are subsequently unbent.

Abstract: When a laminate product is manufactured by extruding a thermoplastic resin on a substrate for coating, a space enclosed between a member for cooling the thermoplastic resin and a non-cooled thermoplastic resin film is kept within an atmosphere having a high permeability with respect to the thermoplastic resin film. Occurrence of craters in the laminated resin film is reduced.

Abstract: A filter exchange device in a molten resin passage in an extrusion molding machine, which includes at least one filter casing for airtightly enclosing a spare filter and having port means for exhausting air out of the filter casing and filling the interior thereof with a gas inactive to molten resin. Fish eyes contained in the molded product after filter exchange reduced in number.

Abstract: In a method for continuously coating with a coating solution a plurality of running webs having discontinuous areas in the surface thereof, the improvement which comprises coarsening at least the surface of the web coated in the area of the web immediately following the discontinuous area of the web prior to the coating. The discontinuous areas in the surface can arise from the tape used to connect one web to another web or from projection in the surface of the web.

Abstract: A method for applying various coating liquids on the surface of a travelling web, such as plastic films, paper, metallic sheets, etc., with a discontinuity thereon, e.g., due to a connection of pieces of the web comprising preworking a web portion so that the web surface downstream of the discontinuity is coplanar to or higher than the maximum height of the discontinuity, whereby irregularities in coating of liquids are eliminated.
