  • Patent number: 8064656
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an image processing apparatus, including a representative face extraction unit configured to detect face images in an image frame that forms part of video image data, and select, from the detected face images, a face image to be used as index information. The representative face extraction unit is configured to calculate a score of each of the face images detected in the image frame based on characteristics of the face image, and select a detected face image whose score is high as an index-use face image.

  • Patent number: 7903947
Abstract: The present invention relates to a recording apparatus and a method, a playback apparatus and a method, a recording medium, and a program capable of quickly playing back a picture associated with a unit in which a moving image is encoded. An extraction section 51 extracts one picture from each GOP. A number-of-pixels conversion section 40 reduces the amount of information of the extracted picture by thinning out pixels. A static-image compression section 41 encodes the picture whose amount of information has been reduced by a JPEG technique. A microcomputer 31 associates the encoded picture with the GOP from which the picture has been extracted and controls recording of the picture associated with the GOP onto a disk 45 on which the moving image is to be recorded. The present invention can be applied to a recording apparatus for recording a moving image onto a data recording medium.

  • Patent number: 7689591
Abstract: Disclosed is a recording apparatus for editing data and recording a file which is an editing result. The apparatus is configured by a file generating section for generating a file and a recording section for recording the file which is generated by the file generating section, in a recording medium. The file is composed of a management information block and a data block. The management information block has at least an image management track for storing management information necessary for reproducing image data with respect to each predetermined unit reproducing time, an identifier of the image management track, and a display control track for storing management information of display control data which is composed of a display position of an image which corresponds to the image data. The data block is capable of storing data which is managed by the management information block.

  • Patent number: 7630567
Abstract: In an image coding method, an area of interest is specified in a captured image displayed on a display section. Positional information of the area of interest is obtained. The compression rate of the area of interest and the compression rate of the remaining area are set in such a manner as to differ from each other on the basis of the positional information. Coding of the area of interest and coding of the remaining area are performed on the basis of the corresponding compression rates.

  • Patent number: 7233566
    Abstract: In a 5×3 wavelet transform apparatus, a function-A module (11) calculates equations A1 and A2, a function-B module (12) calculates equations B1 and B2, function-C0 module (13) calculates an equation C0, and a function-C1 module (14) calculates an equation C1. Selectors have terminals thereof set to “1” for a forward transform, and to “0” for an inverse transform. The equations A1 and B1 are applied for reversible transform, and A2 and B2 are applied for irreversible transform. The aforementioned equations are as follows: Aout=RoundOff {(Ain0+Ain1+0×2000)>>2}. A1 Aout=0.25*(Ain0+Ain1). A2 Bout=RoundOff(Bin0+Bin1). B1 Bout=0.5*(Bin0+Bin1). B2 C0out=C0in0+C1in1. C0 C1out=C0in0?C1in1. C1.

  • Patent number: 6636690
Abstract: To prevent fraudulent innumerable copies of a copyrighted digital signal from appearing, a dedicated device driver reads the copyrighted digital signal from a card type recording medium, for example, a copy bit flag is added to the digital signal thus read, the copy bit flag indicating that there exists no digital signal identical to the original digital data, and the digital signal having the copy bit flag added thereto is stored into a hard disc.
