  • Patent number: 4648986
Abstract: Compositions based on mixtures of ethylene-ethyl acrylate copolymers and ethylene-vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride terpolymers which have adhesion to and strippability from crosslinked olefin polymers. Compositions of this invention, which are rendered semi-conductive by the addition of carbon black thereto, are especially useful as outer layers bonded to layers of crosslinked olefin polymer insulation of electrical conductors.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 7, 1986
Date of Patent: March 10, 1987
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
Inventors: Kunio Kotani, Akio Hayashi, Seiho Taniguchi

  • Patent number: 4493787
Abstract: Semi-conductive compositions, based on ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers or chlorinated products thereof, containing carbon black, a silicone compound and an interface crosslink inhibitor, such as a phenol, a quinone, a thiazole or a thiuram sulfide, which find utility as semi-conductive layers about crosslinked polyolefin substrates of electrical conductors.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 20, 1982
Date of Patent: January 15, 1985
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
    Inventors: Seiho Taniguchi, Yuichiro Sakuma
  • Patent number: 4430470
Abstract: Flame retardant additive comprising alumina trihydrate and a methyl hydrogen polysiloxane which when added to ethylene polymers provide compositions which have improved flame retardant properties, have reduced gas evolution, do not drip or give off noxious gases on burning and are particularly useful as jacketing material about wire and cables.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 30, 1982
Date of Patent: February 7, 1984
    Assignee: Nippon Unicar Company Ltd.
Inventors: Seiho Taniguchi, Yuichiro Sakuma, Tadashi Yoshii
  • Patent number: 4305849
Abstract: A polyolefin composition for electrical insulation which comprises polyolefin or crosslinked polyolefin and a small quantity of high-molecular weight polyethylene glycol. This composition is far less vulnerable to the deterioration that occurs as dendroid voids when employed as an electrical insulation of high-tension power cables which are operated under water. The polyethylene glycol has more than 44 carbon atoms and is used in an amount from 0.3 to 10 wt % based on polyolefin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 15, 1980
Date of Patent: December 15, 1981
    Assignee: Nippon Unicar Company Limited
Inventors: Youichi Kawasaki, Kenji Igarashi, Seiho Taniguchi
  • Patent number: 4085249
Abstract: A semiconductive composition having controlled strippability from cross-linked ethylene polymer based insulation compositions and comprising chlorinated ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer containing about 3 to 40 percent by weight of chlorine and conductive carbon black.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 15, 1975
Date of Patent: April 18, 1978
    Assignee: Nippon Unicar Company Limited
Inventors: Seiho Taniguchi, Yoichi Kawasaki, Shin' Ichi Sugawara
