    Abstract: An apparatus for recognizing visual patterns of handprinted characters or the like by means of an optical character reader which reads the patterns by a so-called outermost point method. While tracing the contour of the pattern stored in a two-dimensional memory, the distances from the starting point of the tracing and the integrated values of the coordinates of the points traced on the contour from the starting points are simultaneously obtained successively to extract outermost points for the series of contours. According to this outermost points, the contours are segmented into the convex line segments, concavity line segments and hole segments and the corresponding parameters of features of each segment are detected. Simultaneously, the convex line segment of which is shorter than a predetermined length is rejected and the remaining segments are subjected to matching operation in accordance with preliminarily prepared dictionary, thereby making a decision as to the pattern's identity.

Each of the resistors has a predetermined resistance value. The transmission lines are mounted on print circuit boards. The bus is connected in a loop form as a whole. Each of the integrated circuits has a driver and a receiver. The driver and receiver are connected to respective one of the resistors. As a result, DC power dissipation in the terminal resistor of the bus circuit is suppressed. In addition, high speed signal transfer causing less waveform distortion is made possible.

    Abstract: A collision sensor 1 is mounted on a pedal bracket 2 which are supported by a front frame 4, a front mount rail 5, and a reinforce 8 which are all located in front of the cab. The collision sensor 1 is connected through a cable 24 to the gas generator 21 of a pretensioner seat belt 16 and to the inflator 23 of an air bag 17. The pedal bracket 2, being high in rigidity, senses a shock wave well, and is scarcely damaged at the time of a collision. Since it is not exposed directly in the air, it is high in weather resistance, and is proper in maintenance because it is located at the position to which the hand can be readily extended. Thus, at the time of a collision, the degree of injury to the passenger is minimized.
