  • Patent number: 5964032
Abstract: This invention relates to an assembly method, for head units mounting a plurality of head chips for discharging ink onto a frame, in which relative positions among head chips are determined and which the head chips are secured onto the frame so as to maintain the relative positions, to an assembly apparatus for head units based on the method, and further to an ink jet output apparatus incorporating those head units. According to this invention, correction by each image output will not be required because the head unit is able to complete adjustments of shifts of arrival positions of ink at its assembling stage, thereby making the apparatus compact and simple. In addition, correction of positional shifts will not be required when the heads are replaced, so that maintenance of the ink jet output apparatus will be easy.

  • Patent number: 5953031
Abstract: An ink leaking from an atmosphere communication hole of a waste ink container is guided to an end portion of the waste ink container. Electrodes are provided for shutting off an ink guide path. By this, the ink leaking through the atmosphere communication hole is inherently guided into the end portion of the container to come into contact with both of the electrodes. By contacting of the ink, a resistance value between the electrodes is varied to permit detection of ink leakage based on the variation of the resistance value. As a result, ink leakage from a waste ink container employed in an ink-jet printer or so forth can be certainly detected. Also, sealing ability of the waste ink container can be enhanced.

  • Patent number: 5940957
Abstract: A common recess, grooves, and common recess and/or column members in the grooves are formed on a base board at the same time, and such board is made a second base board, which is coupled to a first base board on which elements for liquid discharging energy are formed; hence obtaining an ink jet recording head provided with a filter unit in an arbitrary position in the region formed by the ink paths and the common liquid chamber. The filter unit can be processed by a single processing in the ink paths and/or the common liquid chamber to make it possible to prevent disabled discharge from taking place due to dust particles intermingled at the time of head manufacture. In this way, the discharging stability is enhanced, making a high-speed printing possible. A workpiece is efficiently processed by a single processing which is performed to process a three-dimensional configuration with respect to the direction in which the laser beam is irradiated.

  • Patent number: 5629728
Abstract: An ink container has an atmosphere communicating section for placing the inside of the container in communication with the atmosphere. The atmosphere communicating section has a plurality of chambers, one of which communicates with the inside of the ink container, and another of which communicates with the atmosphere. Each chamber communicates with another chamber through a port smaller than the chamber. Preferably, the plurality of chambers are disposed in a direction intersecting a direction from the interior to the exterior of the ink container and the opening in the chambers are positioned such that they are shifted from each other. This arrangement prevents ink leakage through the atmosphere communicating section and eliminates a general feeling of anxiety on the part of users deriving from the possibility of having their hands and clothes soiled with spilt ink. It also inhibits ink evaporation.

  • Patent number: 5623287
Abstract: An ink container, as well as a method of making the same, which has ink absorbing material for retaining ink, a casing for holding the ink absorbing material, an ink supply port through which ink is withdrawn from the absorbing material, and an air vent. The air vent and ink supply port are each provided adjacent to different longitudinal halves of the ink absorbing material, and the casing is initially filled with an amount of ink which is larger than the quantity of ink which can be retained by the ink absorbing material. Then, ink adjacent to the air vent is removed to such an extent that the casing contains the quantity of the ink which the ink absorbing material can retain. Thus, ink is retained at a higher density adjacent to the ink supply port than adjacent to the air vent.
