  • Patent number: 7133337
Abstract: A disk drive uses a running OPC control recording technique for obtaining an optimum recording power level. The disk drive irradiates an optical disk with an optical spot, detects a front power level and a rear power level of a reflected optical spot, calculates an index of the recorded state of the mark formed by the recording power of the optical spot, and controls the recording power based on the index of the recorded state.

  • Patent number: 7126896
Abstract: A plurality of pits representing recording target information are formed on an optical disk, while a laser light having a predetermined power is irradiated onto the optical disk. When information is being recorded, a condition index representing a recording condition of the optical disk is derived with the use of an equation which is changeable in accordance with the kind of the optical disk and the operational environment of a recording apparatus. The power of the laser light irradiated onto the optical disk is adjusted so that the recording condition may be a predetermined recording condition based on the derived condition index.

  • Patent number: 6842413
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to obtain a write condition detection index with improved stability for a variation in temperature and with improved detection sensitivity for a write condition so that the index can more appropriately follow a variation in write condition. A write pit reflected light level Sp and a write space reflected light level Ss are detected. On the basis of these detected values Sp and Ss and write power Pw1 with which laser beams from a semiconductor laser element exit an objective of an optical head during a write, an index Rm that is indicative of a write condition for an optical disk is determined using the equation Rm=Sp/Ss/(Pw1)2. Then, on the basis of the write condition detection index Rm, the write power Pw1 is controlled.

  • Publication number: 20020101805
Abstract: An optical disk recording device is provided with an optical pickup. The optical pickup irradiates laser light onto an area for forming pits at a first output and irradiates laser light onto an area for forming no pits at a second output lower than the first output, during recording data in an optical disk. a first detector detects an intensity of reflected light of the laser light irradiated at the second output from an unrecorded area is detected. A second detector detects an intensity of reflected light of the laser light irradiated at the second output from a recorded area. A processor calculates a ratio of both intensities of the reflected light from the unrecorded area and the reflected light from the recorded area. A voltage adjuster adjusts the first output such that the intensity ratio is within a predetermined range.
