The generated image files IF of the partitions HDn are stored in directories DIR that correspond to the partitions HDn in the created directory structure. Data content of the image files IF read from the directories DIR that correspond to the partitions HDn is written to the partitions HDn of the storage medium.

    Abstract: To provide a data updating system and the like for easily performing updating the difference for the database which contains a large amount of data, each piece of the data being highly correlated, such as a map database that contains road network data. According to the present invention, the data updating system includes a terminal device running according to a predefined operating program, and servers providing the terminal device with a differential data file for updating a database. The terminal includes a local database in an updating data format differing from a reference data format to be referenced to by the operating program and being updated with the differential data file, and a conversion means converting data stored in the local database so as to have the reference data format. The servers include a differential data file output means outputting the differential data file to be provided to the terminal device.

    Abstract: The system of the present invention provides easy update of a database containing a large amount of data arranged in a complicated interrelationship by use of a data file of a content limited to data differing from that already in the database, within a relatively short period of time. The navigation apparatus determines conversion priority according to the operational state of an operation program and converts data in a local storage database to a referential data format in the order of the determined conversion priority.     Abstract: Systems, methods, and programs for updating map data create differential data in a server by comparing an old version of map data stored in the server with a new version of map data and transmit the differential data from the server to a relay device. The systems, methods and programs create updated map data by combining the differential data received from the server with map data previously stored in the relay device. The relay device may then be connected to an updated data storing device that disconnectably connects to both the relay device and the navigation system. The systems, methods, and programs, may then transfer the updated map data from the relay device to the updated data storing device and from the updated data storing device to the navigation system.
