    Abstract: A channel box removing apparatus which permits a removal of the channel box from a nuclear fuel assembly while being placed on a fuel rack in a spent fuel storage pool without transferring to a preparation machine. The apparatus includes a pair of pivotally mounted, releasable hooks movable between a latched position where the hooks are in lifting engagement with the undersurfaces of clips provided on a pair of diagonally opposed top corners of the channel box and an unlatched position where the hooks are out of engagement with the associated clips. The apparatus also includes a bail cap mounted thereon for vertical movement and adapted to cooperate with a bail of the fuel assembly to guide the apparatus into an operative position with the fuel assembly during lowering of the apparatus. A locking mechanism is provided for preventing accidental disengagement of the hooks from the associated clips when the channel box is being lifted.

    Abstract: An elongated wrench for fastener bolts, such as commonly used with nuclear fuel assemblies for a boiling water type nuclear reactor. The bolt wrench includes a socket wrench mounted to a control rod, an outer cover for supporting the control rod for axial as well as rotational movement therein, a plurality of releasable hooks pivotally mounted to the control rod around the socket wrench, and a control lever for moving the outer cover relative to the control rod to cause the releasable hooks to grip a fastener bolt. In a second embodiment, a pair of releasable hooks having guide rollers are pivotally mounted to a support sleeve which, in turn, is mounted on the outer cover for axial movement relative thereto. An actuator link having a pair of guide grooves adapted to receive the associated rollers is movable along the support sleeve in response to axial movement of the outer cover relative to the control rod.

    Abstract: An improved pair of scissors having two blades pivotally connected by a swivel pin, the blades having their respective cutting edges which engage with each other at a point immediately adjacent to the swivel point when the cutting edges are in the closed position. This construction eliminates the possibility of creating the so-called "dead space" thus enabling opening of the cutting edges wide and providing a constant cutting length as well as a distinct sharpness.

    Abstract: A suspension grapple adapted especially for use in transferring nuclear fuel assemblies to a reactor core, a fuel pool and the like. It includes a hook swingable into and out of engagement with the fuel assembly, a first lock mechanism for automatically locking the hook in lifting engagement with the fuel assembly, and a remotely operable mechanism for disabling the first lick mechanism to disengage the hook from the assembly. A second lock mechanism is provided to lock the hook out of engagement with the fuel assembly. The grapple further includes an automatic release mechanism which operates to release the hook from that out-of-engagement position and move it into lifting engagement with the fuel assembly upon the grapple abutting the assembly in a predetermined positional relationship therebetween when being lowered to engage the assembly.

    Abstract: The invention provides an automatic channel box fitting position adjusting apparatus to facilitate positional adjustment of a channel box for fitting onto a nuclear fuel assembly. The apparatus comprises a position adjusting mechanism and a jig having a rod for controlling the position adjusting mechanism. The position adjusting mechanism includes guide rollers to guide the channel box to a correct fitting position. The guide rollers are tapered toward outer ends and are cantilevered at inner ends thereof.
