  • Patent number: 4960652
Abstract: A grain-oriented electromagnetic steel sheet has an ultra low watt loss and heat resistant subdivided magnetic domains. The electromagnetic steel sheet has spaced apart regions of plastic strain and an insulating coating disposed thereon. Intruders are thermally intruded into the spaced apart regions of plastic strain causing the subdivided magnetic domains to be heat resistant and maintaining the subdivided magnetic domains after stress relief annealing. Preferred intruders include Sb and Sb containing materials.

  • Patent number: 4863531
Abstract: Method for subdividing the magnetic domains of a grain-oriented electrical steel sheet is improved so that the watt loss can be further lessened and the watt-loss improving effect does not disappear during stress relief annealing. An intrudable means is formed on the finishing-annealed steel sheet on or in the vicinity of strain which promotes the intrusion of an intrudable means. Sb or Sb containing material is a preferred intrudable means and the laser irradiation is a preferred method for imparting the strain and also for attaining the removal of a surface coating.

  • Patent number: 4790913
Abstract: The Sn based multilayer coated steel strip for container-use is improved by the provision of a novel underyling coating of ternary Fe-Ni-P alloy which, mainly because of the Ni component, ensures a uniform deposition of the Sn layer, and mainly because of the P and Fe contents ensure a satisfactory remaining amount of free Sn for improving the weldability. The steel strip has a thin Sn plated layer and a chromate coating layer on the underlying coating.

  • Patent number: 4663245
Abstract: A zinc- or zinc alloy-hot-dipped, unpainted steel sheet having excellent black tarnish resistance, which has a coating of Ni, Co or a combination thereof deposited in an amount of from 0.1 to 15 mg/m.sup.2 on the zinc or zinc alloy plating layer of the sheet, and optionally a chromate layer on the deposited coating, is provided. The steel sheet is produced by immersing a zinc- or zinc alloy-hot-dipped steel sheet in an aqueous solution containing 1 to 20 g/l of Ni ions, Co ions or a combination thereof to deposit Ni, Co or a combination thereof in an amount of from 0.1 to 15 mg/m.sup.2 on the zinc or zinc alloy plating layer of the sheet, optionally followed by chromating in the usual manner.

  • Patent number: 4501802
Abstract: A hydrated chromium oxide-coated steel strip which has a satisfactory weldability and resistance to corrosion under a lacquer coating and which is useful for producing welded cans and other containers, comprises a steel strip substrate, plated nickel base layers formed on the surfaces of the steel strip substrate and having a weight of 150-2500 mg per m.sup.2 of each surface of the substrate, hydrated chromium oxide-containing coating layers formed on the surfaces of the plated nickel base layers and having a weight of 2-20 mg, in terms of metallic chromium, per m.sup.2 of each surface of the substrate, and, optionally, plated tin intermediate layers formed between the plated nickel base layers and the chromate-containing coating layers and having a weight of 100-2000 mg per m.sup.2 of each surface of the substrate, the hydrated chromium oxide-containing coating layer optionally being composed of a metallic chromium underlayer in a weight of 10 mg or less per m.sup.

  • Patent number: 4476805
Abstract: Passed through a chamber holding a non-oxidizing atmosphere substantially horizontally, a steel strip is continuously coated on one side only with a molten coating metal. An electromagnetic pump imparts a thrust to the molten coating metal on the entry side of a guide so as to form a stream of the molten metal rising above the bath surface on the exit side of the guide. The rising molten metal stream contacts the bottom surface of the strip to form a film of the coating metal thereon. Provision is made to offer less flow resistance to the rising stream widthwise then lengthwise, so that the molten coating metal flows positively toward both edges of the strip.

  • Patent number: 4461679
Abstract: A steel sheet plated with Pb-Sn alloy, suitable for use as the material of automobile fuel tanks for containing fuel having alcoholic content. The steel sheet has an NiSn alloy layer or a composite layer including a backing Ni layer and the NiSn alloy layer; the NiSn alloy layer or the composite layer being formed on the steel surface to have a thickness of 0.035 to 1.mu.; and a plating layer of Pb-Sn system alloy formed on the sole NiSn layer on the NiSn layer of the composite layer. The steel sheet plated with Pb-Sn alloy can be produced by plating the steel sheet with Ni backing, forming a Pb-Sn system alloy layer by a hot dip plating, and rapidly cooling the steel sheet. Alternatively, the steel sheet plated with Ni is subjected to successive electroplating with Sn and then with Pb, and is then treated at a specific temperature for melting and diffusing Sn into Ni to form the NiSn layer.
