  • Publication number: 20180328120
Abstract: A system and method to minimize the likelihood of cable damage due to downhole operations such as perforating is disclosed. The system includes at least one transducer and at least one orientation device positioned adjacent a cable. A wireless signal from the transducer and/or orientation device is transmitted towards the cable. The wireless signal influences a wired signal transmitted in the cable. The influenced wired signal is used to identify the axial and radial orientation of the cable. The transducer may be secured to a mid-joint collar on the casing string in a portion of the wellbore to be perforated. The transducers are identified and located by the control system and a perforating tool can be adjusted to point away from the cable before firing of the perforating tool.

  • Patent number: 8781273
Abstract: Ferrule assemblies having at least one coded magnetic array are disclosed. In one embodiment, a ferrule assembly includes a ferrule body having a coupling surface and a coded magnetic array having a plurality of magnetic regions. The coded magnetic array may be located within the coupling surface. The ferrule assembly further includes a lens component located within the ferrule body. The lens component may have a facet at the coupling surface of the ferrule body at a predetermined angle. In another embodiment, a translating ferrule assembly includes an optical interface and a coded magnetic array, and is configured to translate within a connector housing of an optical connector when coupled to an electronics device. Optical couplings having a coded magnetic array and sockets for receiving a connector are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8774577
Abstract: Optical couplings for making and optical connection between one or more devices are disclosed. In one embodiment, an optical coupling includes a coupling face, an optical interface within the coupling face, an optical component positioned within the optical interface, and at least one coded magnetic array. The at least one coded magnetic array may include a plurality of magnetic regions configured aid in mating the optical component with a corresponding optical component of a complementary mated optical coupling to a predetermined tolerance for optical communication. Optical cable assemblies and electronics devices having optical couplings with optical interfaces using coded magnetic arrays are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20110122912
Abstract: Optical transmitters for radio over fiber systems are disclosed. More particularly, the optical transmitters include optically-injection-locked vertical cavity surface-emitting laser devices (OIL VCSELS). The transmitters include a master laser, at least one slave laser injection-locked by the master laser, and an equalizer/filter unit that enables the ratio of the carrier power to the sideband power in the output signal of the transmitter to be varied and optimized independently of the injection ratio of the transmitter.

  • Patent number: 6665114
Abstract: A hybrid optical signal amplifier is provided which includes the combination of a Raman amplifier and an EDFA assembly. The Raman amplifier has an output defined by regions of higher and lower gain levels, and the EDFA assembly has an output having a region, near the longer wavelengths thereof, that includes a maximum noise figure. The spectrum region of higher gain level of the Raman amplifier is selected to correspond to the spectrum region of the EDFA assembly that includes the maximum noise figure in order to lower the maximum noise figure of the resulting optical signal amplifier, as well as to flatten the gain across the output spectrum.
