Publication number: 20110024937Abstract: Rotary press machine including dies, pairs of upper and lower punches with a part of each lower punch being movable in a respective die to selectively enable formation of a cavity in the die, a feeding system for feeding powder material into the cavities, when present, in a feeding stage, a pressing system for pressing the upper and lower punches together in a pressing stage and a tablet ejection system for ejecting formed tablets from the dies in a tablet ejection stage. The upper and lower punches are rotated sequentially through the feeding stage, the pressing stage, and the tablet ejection stage to thereby enable formation of tablets if powder material is feed into the cavities in the dies. To enable selective formation of tablets and thereby optimize production thereof, an adjustment mechanism is provided and enables selective formation of the cavities in the dies.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 30, 2009Publication date: February 3, 2011Inventors: Semen Dukler, Lev Tsygan, Michael Levin

Publication number: 20090293633Abstract: Disclosed herein is a shear application system for applying substantially uniform amounts of shear throughout a powder sample. The shear application system preferably includes a cylinder assembly having an inner cylinder, a housing, an inner set of lugs, and an outer set of lugs. The inner cylinder has an external cylindrical surface and the housing has an internal cylindrical surface concentric with said external cylindrical surface. The internal and external cylindrical surfaces form an annular chamber therebetween. Each one of the lugs of the inner set extend radially outward from the external cylindrical surface, and each one of the lugs of the outer set extend radially inward from the internal cylindrical surface and are substantially uniformly spaced. The shear application system preferably includes drive means mechanically connected to the inner cylinder and control means electrically connected to the drive means.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 6, 2009Publication date: December 3, 2009Applicant: RUTGERS, THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW JERSEYInventors: Fernando J. Muzzio, Lev Tsygan, Semen Dukler

Patent number: 6482338Abstract: This disclosure concerns an apparatus and methods for reproducing compaction and ejection events in a plurality of press machines. Each press machine has at least one die opening wherein a compound is placed to be compressed at least once between upper and lower punches sliding inside the said die whereupon the compressed compound is ejected from the die cavity. The apparatus and methods ensure that the plurality of compression and ejection events have the same exact speed, profile curvature, and pressure or force as on any pre-specified press machine by matching the timing and geometrical path of the punch movements as well as the depth of fill of the die. The linear speed of the punches is matched by a computer controlling the programmable motor of the die carrier. The path protiles of the punches are matched mechanically by means of interchangeable rollers and cams with the predefined geometry.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2000Date of Patent: November 19, 2002Assignee: Metropolitan Computing CorporationInventors: Michael Levin, Lev Tsygan, Semen Dukler
