  • Publication number: 20210294307
Abstract: Methods and systems for engineering design and management, can include constructing an engineering workflow development environment into an industrial automation control system, wherein the engineering workflow development environment speeds-up and manages engineering design and development activities and one or more phases with respect to the industrial automation control system. A workflow engine can operate within the engineering workflow development environment, wherein the workflow engine allows a user to track and modify the status of any of the phases.

  • Patent number: 10244000
Abstract: A method includes establishing, using a connection policy at a first device, a security association with a second device of an industrial process control and automation system. The method also includes, once the security association is established, activating a process data policy at the first device. The security association is established during first and second types of negotiations. The process data policy is activated during the second type of negotiation without the first type of negotiation. The second type of negotiation is faster than the first type of negotiation. The connection policy defines a communication channel between the devices using a non-process communication port of the first device. The process data policy defines a communication channel between the devices for real-time industrial process data. The first type of negotiation could include an IKE main mode negotiation, and the second type of negotiation could include an IKE quick mode negotiation.

  • Patent number: 10158715
Abstract: A method for optimizing memory utilization in a gateway of a process control and automation system is provided. The method includes obtaining, for a selected intelligent electronic device (IED), a configured IED description (CID) file associated with the selected IED. The CID file is filtered to generate a filtered CID file. The filtered CID file is provided to the gateway, which is configured to use the filtered CID file to communicate with the selected IED.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 10078316
Abstract: A method of configuring actual Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) into a substation automation system (SAS) of a power system that runs a substation process. An IED data repository stores IED information including a plurality of logical node classes (LNs), where each LN includes a plurality of data objects as LN type definitions that represent at least bay level functions including control and monitoring outputs from the primary devices or protecting the primary devices. Using an LN type generator, selection of LNs is performed from the plurality of LNs based on functions for implementing at least one single line diagram (selected LNs) that represents the SAS. From the selected LNs a pre-configured IED strategy is generated to represent at a first actual IED to control and automate the substation process in a format understood by the SAS. The pre-configured IED strategy is saved into the IED data repository.

  • Patent number: 9557725
Abstract: A method includes identifying device description files corresponding to first and second field devices associated with an industrial process control system. The method also includes comparing multiple field device characteristics of the first and second field devices using the device description files. The method further includes identifying any differences between the device characteristics of the first field device and the device characteristics of the second field device. In addition, the method includes determining a compatibility of the first and second field devices based on any identified differences. The field device characteristics can relate to field device attributes, field device function blocks, and function block parameters of the first and second field devices.
