  • Patent number: 11155369
Abstract: Provided are an artificial satellite and a method of controlling the same. The artificial satellite includes a main body flying along an orbit of a planet, an optical payload arranged on the main body to photograph a ground surface of the planet, and a pair of solar cell panels rotatably arranged on both sides of the main body in a first direction, wherein the first direction and a flight direction of the main body form an acute angle with each other.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 5, 2018
Date of Patent: October 26, 2021
    Assignee: KOREA AEROSPACE RESEARCH INSTITUTE
    Inventors: Moon-Jin Jeon, Seok-Weon Choi, Seong-Bin Lim
  • Patent number: 10696427
Abstract: A method of controlling a satellite and a computer-readable recording medium are provided. The method is for controlling a satellite moving along an orbit having an inclination angle from the equatorial plane to capture due-north images. The method includes: determining a position of the satellite; calculating a roll angle and a pitch angle of the satellite for pointing a line-of-sight vector of the satellite to a first ground surface being a photographing point; determining a compensation angle by considering effects of the inclination angle and rotation of the Earth so as to capture images in the due north direction of the photographing point; calculating a yaw angle based on the compensation angle; and rotating the satellite according to the calculated roll angle, pitch angle, and yaw angle.

  • Patent number: 10167093
Abstract: Provided is an apparatus for controlling an orbiting satellite by sensing a change in a yaw angle of the orbiting satellite and calculating a ground sample distance (GSD) based on the yaw angle. The apparatus may include a sensor configured to sense a yaw angle corresponding to yaw steering of the orbiting satellite, and a processor configured to calculate, based on the yaw angle, a GSD corresponding to a length of a pixel projected onto a planetary surface scanned by the orbiting satellite.
