Publication number: 20050050043Abstract: Data for electronic images is stored in a server. Metadata is assigned to each image file and categorizes each image according to one or more schemes. Possible metadata schemes include image date, one or more image subjects, and image location. The image files may then be searched based on the assigned metadata. Images may be stored in a database that includes at least one virtual folder corresponding to each metadata scheme, with each image having at least one entry in each folder. Each folder may further have subfolders that correspond to sub-categories of a categorization scheme. Each image may then have an entry in each subfolder which describes a part of the image metadata. A date search interface allows a user to select a year of interest, then a month, and then a day. A location search interface allows a user to select a subregion of a displayed region.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2003Publication date: March 3, 2005Inventors: Seppo Pyhalammi, Juha Caven, Ilari Lahteenmaki, Henri Roth

Patent number: 6820116Abstract: A mobile browsing booster system and method that allows a user to browse web services, select a class of delivery using the browser, and receive updates of frequently visited and related content at his or her wireless terminal, such as a cellular phone. The system is comprised of two parts; a browsing agent and a user database. The combination stores and analyzes a user's web-browsing habits to create personalized and optimized content to be preferably time-delay delivered to the memory of the user's wireless terminal device, at a time when the wireless network is least utilized. The scheduling of delivery is accomplished by a mobile content delivery system.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2001Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Seppo Pyhälammi, Kaj Häggman, Iikka Aartolahti, Markku Rauhamaa

Publication number: 20040209592Abstract: A mobile communication terminal allows a user to receive broadcast programming. A separate recording unit, which can be remote from the communication terminal, records that programming. One or more signals from the mobile terminal identify the broadcast frequency to which the mobile terminal is tuned and cause the recording unit to tune to the identified broadcast frequency. The signals from the mobile terminal also cause the recording unit to record at least a portion of a program being broadcast on the frequency to which the mobile terminal is tuned. The recording unit may buffer portions of broadcast programming being received on the identified frequency. A portion of the buffer contents can subsequently be transmitted to the mobile terminal, permitting the terminal user to replay the portion and identify a start point for the broadcast program. A signal from the mobile terminal can also cause the recording unit to automatically identify the start point in the buffer contents.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2003Publication date: October 21, 2004Applicant: Nokia CorporationInventors: Ole Kirkeby, Seppo Pyhalammi

Publication number: 20040192268Abstract: A resource controller may store a plurality of files or other data that are at least partially accessible by one or more users in a network. The user may operate a mobile device, such as a cellular telephone and/or personal digital assistant, to call or otherwise contact the resource controller. The mobile device and/or a communications network may send identification information to the resource controller that identifies the mobile device and distinguishes it from other mobile devices. Based on the identification information, the resource controller may grant or deny access to files. The resource controller may further provide the user with the appropriate user ID and/or password based on the identification information. The user may then enter the user ID and/or password to gain access to files stored at the resource controller.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 2, 2002Publication date: September 30, 2004Applicant: Nokia CorporationInventor: Seppo Pyhalammi

Publication number: 20040066419Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for browsing miniaturized versions of images stored locally on a mobile device while allowing the associated full-sized image to be transferred to the mobile device as needed. In one embodiment of the invention, a method of viewing an image on the mobile device includes the steps of storing in the mobile device a miniaturized version of an image stored in the mobile device, transferring the image to an external storage device, and deleting the image from the mobile device. In response to the user of the mobile device selecting the miniaturized version of the image, the mobile device sends a wireless message to the external storage device requesting transfer of the full-sized image. The external storage device transfers the full-sized image to the mobile device in a second message and the mobile device is able to display the full-sized image.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 3, 2002Publication date: April 8, 2004Applicant: Nokia CorporationInventor: Seppo Pyhalammi

Publication number: 20040067761Abstract: A method and system for establishing a data connection between two devices over a mobile telecommunications network is provided. A mobile terminal can establish a data connection with a second device by establishing a GPRS connection and obtaining an IP address. The mobile terminal sends an SMS message including its IP address to the second device. The second device also establishes a GPRS connection and obtains an IP address, and then sends a return SMS message including the second device's IP address to the mobile terminal. Once the two devices have exchanged IP address information, they jointly set up a data connection to transfer data, e.g., image files.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 3, 2002Publication date: April 8, 2004Applicant: Nokia CorporationInventors: Seppo Pyhalammi, Jussi Maki

Publication number: 20030045273Abstract: A mobile content delivery system that optimizes the delivery of especially bandwidth-consuming content (or the flow of any peak-hour data traffic) in a way that best utilizes the free capacity in the radio network, thus enabling considerably more efficient usage of the radio capacity. It also allows new services and pricing structures to be used in the cellular network, that otherwise would not be possible. The class of delivery of message content can be selected by the user on a transaction basis, or subscription-based and pre-defined in a user profile. By choosing a scheduled delivery the user can receive the content at a fraction of the price compared to instant delivery, since the content is sent at a time when the network is least utilized.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2001Publication date: March 6, 2003Inventors: Seppo Pyhalammi, Kaj Haggman, Ilkka Aartolahti, Markku Rauhamaa

Patent number: 5671224Abstract: A method for interconnecting local area networks or network segments by means of a bridge. In the method, a local area network frame is received at the bridge and forwarded across the bridge if its destination address refers to a network or network segment on the other side of the bridge. In order that a bridge simple in structure can be utilized in cases where priority is to be assigned to terminal traffic over datafile transfer traffic, the length of the frame to be forwarded is determined for classification into a respective one of at least two categories, by length, and the obtained length classifications are utilized in the transmission of the frames for assigning priority to at least some of the shorter frames over the longer frames.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1995Date of Patent: September 23, 1997Assignee: Nokia Telecommunications OyInventors: Seppo Pyhalammi, Olli-Pekka Lintula, Antti Kokkinen

Patent number: 5237561Abstract: A digital data transmission system comprising a data transmission network formed by several node stations (A1-A4) and interconnecting high-speed trunk lines (1-5). Each node station comprises several low-speed parallel subscriber interfaces controlled by a network management system (6), subscriber stations (B1-B5) being connectable to the subscriber interfaces either directly or through a serial modem link (10-13), depending on the distance. The network management can be extended up to the subscriber stations so that said modem link (10-13) transfers all signals of the parallel subscriber interface in serial form in both directions, forming, at the end close to the subscriber station (B2-B5), a parallel slave interface corresponding to the subscriber interface.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1991Date of Patent: August 17, 1993Assignee: Nokia Data Systems OyInventor: Seppo Pyhalammi
