    Abstract: The invention relates to light boxes comprising fluorescent tubes, which are used to illuminate display screens with optical valves, in particular liquid-crystal matrix screens. More specifically, the invention is suitable for use in the field of head-up or medium-head collimated displays used on aircraft. The invention consists in improving the photometric properties of said light boxes using a novel fluorescent tube arrangement, whereby said tubes are distributed over several stacked layers. In this way, the number of fluorescent tubes present in the light box is increased and acceptable heating is maintained. The photometric performances of the light box are thus increased while the correct service life of the tubes is retained.

The optical device is angled, and includes at least one lamp and a channel guiding at least some of the light coming from the lamp, as well as a mirror in an angled part of the optical device, consisting of a sheet which is folded so that, on the one hand, it can be partially introduced into the channel and, on the other hand, once introduced into the channel and immobilized therein, it can reflect some of the light coming from the lamp into a determined direction. The invention may, in particular, be applied to liquid crystal imagers for military aircraft.

    Abstract: In an optical device for the display of light data collimated to infinity, an image generator associated with a collimation optical device gives the eye an image collimated to infinity. The light source that illuminates the image generator is controlled so that the position of its illuminating part is such that it gives a narrow beam with an image of this illuminating part centered on the pupil of the eye. This is possible by means of an oculometer that determines the coordinates of the center of the pupil of the eye and delivers a signal enabling an automatic control circuit to adjust the position of the illuminating part of the source accordingly. The device can be applied to pilots' helmets for the display of data overlaid on the landscape.

    Abstract: A luminous data display system is used to improve readability depending on fluctuations in the light environment. It has automatic means to adjust the luminance of the image produced on a screen. These means use a first sensor close to the screen to obtain an indication of the ambient illumination received by the screen, and a second sensor, preferably placed on the helmet, to appreciate the distribution of luminance perceived in the observer's field of vision. Circuits process the detected signal and a manual adjustment signal to produce a correction signal applied to the image video signal.
