  • Patent number: 4668313
Abstract: The invention relates to a polymer with ethylenic unsaturations incorporating silylmetallocene groups, a process for the manufacture of these polymers and a propellant composition having the polymer of the invention as a binder. The polymer of the invention incorporates ethylenic unsaturations, to at least some of which there are added silylmetallocene groups of formula ##STR1## in which M denotes a transition metal such as, for example, iron, the radicals R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 being hydrocarbon radicals. The polymer may be a hydroxytelechelic or carboxytelechelic polybutadiene. This modified polymer is employed as a binder in composite propellant compositions, thus making it possible to solve the problem related to the migration of the combustion catalyst. The invention has application particularly in the field of solid propulsion.

  • Patent number: 4316001
Abstract: An initiator for the anionic polymerization of heterocyclic monomers comprises the product from the association of an alkali metal amide and the salt from at least one hydroxylated compound with the same alkali metal in an aprotic solvent. The hydroxylated compound is a primary alcohol, a secondary or tertiary alcohol, an ether alcohol, an amino alcohol, a polyether alcohol, a polyamino alcohol, a polyaminoetheralcohol, or an enol from a ketone.

  • Patent number: 4292421
Abstract: The invention relates to an anionic polymerization process using an initiator based on an alkali metal amide in combination with an alkali metal salt, as well as to the polymers obtained by this process. The polymerization process according to the invention is characterized in that an initiator is used which results from the combination of an alkali metal amide selected from the group comprising sodium amide, potassium amide or lithium amide and an alkali metal salt of which the cation is selected from the group comprising potassium, lithium or sodium, the anion being selected from the group comprising the thiocyanate, nitrite, cyanide and cyanate anions. These initiators make it possible to carry out the anionic polymerization or vinyl, heterocyclic and diene monomers in order to obtain special polymers or widely used polymers, with great adaptability and under advantageous economic conditions.

  • Patent number: 4254247
Abstract: An initiator for the anionic polymerization of vinyl monomers and dienic monomers comprises the product from the association of an alkali metal amide and the salt from at least one hydroxylated compound with the same alkali metal in an aprotic solvent. The hydroxylated compound is a primary, secondary, or tertiary alcohol. The hydroxylated compound may be a member selected from the group consisting of an alcohol substituted by an heterocyclic group, alcohols containing ethylenic unsaturation, alcohols substituted by an aromatic group, alicyclic alcohols, aromatic alcohols, polyhydroxy compounds, ether-alcohols, polyether-alcohols, and enols from ketones and amino acids.

  • Patent number: 4243787
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the anionic polymerization and copolymerization of vinyl, dienic and heterocyclic monomers.According to the invention, the process consists in carrying out the reaction in the presence of an initiator consisting of a molecular combination of an alkali metal amide and the salt of the same alkali metal with at least one hydroxylic compound and in the absence of solvent. The initiator can be prepared by intimately mixing its constituents or in the presence of a solvent of low polarity which is subsequently evaporated off, or in situ in the monomer.Application to the synthesis of special or widely used polymers and copolymers.
