Abstract: The invention relates to a cosmetic composition comprising, in a mixture, 0.10 to 15% by weight of metal oxide nanopigments chosen from titanium, zinc, cerium or zirconium oxide or mixtures thereof, with a mean diameter of less than 100 nm, and 0.001 to 2% by weight of melanin pigments derived from natural or synthetic sources with a mean diameter of between 10 and 20,000 nm, in a cosmetically acceptable carrier.This composition is useful as a composition for protecting the human epidermis or the hair against UV rays or as make-up.

Abstract: Topically applicable photostable sunscreen/cosmetic compositions well suited for the stable photoprotection of human skin and/or hair against the damaging effects of UV-irradiation, particularly solar radiation, comprise a photoprotecting effective amount of at least one dibenzoylmethane compound and an effective amount of at least one amido compound photostabilizer therefor, in a cosmetically acceptable vehicle, diluent or carrier.

Abstract: The present invention provides a cosmetic temporary coloring composition which comprises a cosmetically acceptable support and, as an active ingredient, at least one chemically modified protein derivative which contains residues of molecules of dye grafted onto the protein chain. Thus, certain of the side chains of the protein derivative having amine, alcohol or thiol functions are substituted by residues of dye molecules. The present invention further provides a process for the temporary coloring of human hair, nails or skin comprising applying thereto in an amount effective to color the human hair, nails or skin a composition containing a solution in water, a lower mono-alcohol or polyol or an aqueous alcoholic mixture wherein the alcohol is present in an amount ranging from 0.5 to 50 percent by weight of the chemically modified protein derivative.

Abstract: According to this process, one effects a stereospecific reduction of the two hydroxyl groups of an ether-diol by a mixture (titanium trichloride, lithium aluminum hydride) at a temperature between 5.degree. C. and about 40.degree. Abstract: The invention relates to cosmetic and pharmaceutical compositions containing the derivatives of benzylidenecamphor of formula: ##STR1## where R.sub.1 denotes H, OH, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy, R.sub.3 denotes OH, C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy, or else when R.sub.1 denotes H or OH, R.sub.3 can represent C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, R.sub.2 and R.sub.4 denote H or OH, at least one of the radicals R.sub.2 and R.sub.4 representing OH.The compounds (I) are wide-band sunscreens and antioxidants, and are utilized in the treatment of cutaneous inflammations and allergies.
